Detroit Red Wings Registry set

i am interested in submitting a Red Wings player set for the Registry, but i'm not sure how well it would go over with everyone. the set wouldn't be an "All-Time" Wings set. my main interest lies in the Wings teams of the 90's and '00's. guys like Yzerman, Larry Murphy, Ciccarelli, Chelios, Lidstrom, Draper, Hull, Shanny, and even guys like McCarty and Osgood. these are the teams i've grown up watching and rooting for. it would be nice to create a set to commemorate them. it would even include guys like Hasek and Robitaille, who only played a year or two (but did win a Cup).

would anyone be opposed to this? it would not include former legends like Howe, Delvecchio, Lindsay, etc. perhaps i could create a "Modern" Wings set, and an "All-Time" set. i doubt anyone other than myself would be interested in putting a set like this together. any input is welcome.

Will...I am not opposed to your concept...it is a "Collector's Registry" and you should feel free to build the sets you choose. The Modern Red Wings and a Vintage Red Wings concept is a fine idea for the Wings fan. Us Bruins fans have only the past. Good luck on building your Red Wings Registry set.

Heh. Actually I'm going to start my own set: Ex-Blues Who Went on to Win a Cup Elsewhere. Regardless of who wins this year, at least one new player (Conroy for CGY or Stillman for TB) will join this expansive club.

You're killin' me man. One of my favorite teams is the one playing the Dead Wings on any given night!! And to think I just told Coach Vinny to sell the Quaker Oats Plante rookie to you.

Seriously though, go for it if you'd like. I'd list the player's rookie cards, but that's just me. When I was in Phoenix there was more red in the arena than white when the Wings came to town.

There's another set - former Coyote players who are kickin' butt on other teams. There were enough former 'yotes in the playoffs this year to make a whole new team!! And a darn good one at that - Khabibulin fightin' Esche & Burke for the #1 spot in net! Ah, hindsight is truly 20/20.

if you are interested in the Plante, go for it. vinny has a thread in the Vintage forum with his asking price. i really don't feel like dropping $1200+ on a card, especially when since the beer supply in Lubbock hasn't dried out quite yet.

i plan on including rookie cards only, i'm trying to put together some kind of list. there are several guys who are iffy, like Kocur, so it might take awhile.

Oh god. I knew there was somebody else, but I couldn't figure out who. Selective amnesia, I guess.

And yes, the entirety of the Red Wings sucks - especially that gaudy "Hockeytown" on their ice.

What I find funny about the Hockeytown thing is that Waroad Minnesota says it is Hockey town. That is where the Christian hockey stick company is and the CHristian family has Olympic gold medals from both the dad and son. How can two places be Hockeytown USA.

It will be interesting to see how the Wings do if there is actually some sort of cap or "cost certainty". They will not simply be able to buy their players as they have done for years. Yes they have developed a few but the majority of their team is bought. It will be nice to see them take a downturn. They do lead the league in overrated players. "Hockeytown" my ass.
