RAW 1916D MERCURY DIME **SOLD FINAL PRICE 850.00**

To all who maybe interested, I have the chance to purchase a
1916D MERC DIME Grading FINE 14 to Very Fine 25. Personally I dont know enough about the MERC dimes to state an exact grade. The seller is asking 850.00 for the coin, I would ask a very Modest selling price of 875.00. I will also except resonable offers to take back TO the seller. I am willing to, after you send payment, to submit the coin to PCI for grading to ensure you the coin is not counterfit. Should you desire me to do the PCI submisson the price would be 895.00 half of the price of the coin would have to be upfront (400.00) if I submit it for grading. . I accept PAYPAL provided you pay to 2 percent of the PAYPAL fees, I will assume the other 1 percent. I also offer a very liberal layway plan. l dont plan to purchase this coin without a buyer. If you are interested please PM or EMAIL me at Dallenusnavy@aol.com

Why PCI and not PCGS? Should this maybe be posted on the BST board?

Oops, my apology, too late here, this IS the BST board!

    Still, why PCI?

My guess is PCI is to just authenticate it and get it done quicker and cheaper.
Not caring much about the grade....

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • Bochiman is exactly Right I just want to autheniate it and prove
to a potential buyer it will grade.

What happens if it does not authenticate?

I certainly would NOT use PCI to authenticate anything.

Use ANACS if you want someone fast, cheap, and reliable. Use the 5 day service.

F-14 isn't a grade. Is it F-15 or VF-20 or VF-25? The prices are different in those two grades and would make a difference if someone wanted to buy it.

The cost to grade this coin is VERY small compared to the potential benefit due to perceived value and grade. No one is going to buy this coin raw and over the internet PCI does not have a very good reputation with regard to grade.

I am actively in the market for a 16-D coin of this approximate grade, but I would not touch it at all over the internet unless it were in either a PCGS, NGC or ANACS slab. In this particular series PCGS tends to have a stronger selling value in a PCGS holder.

$850 is more of a VG price. This coin moves up quickly for small time collectors like myself in the F - VF range.

pcgs, ngc, and anacs are the only grading services that gaurantee and back it up with a buy back

  • The coin was sold today to an unnamed buyer for 850.00 with PCI
grading for authenication. Personally I think any of the services
could have graded the coin for authenticity, the rub would have
been with who you trust enough to put the coin under the microscope and then place there company name on the plastic
    with a grade.

I appreciate everyone's comments, recommendations and lively
discussion. Some very good points were raised.

Alhender: Fortunately for you, there will be other 1916-D merc dimes that become available.

Indeed, prefer PCGS, NGC, ANACS and ICG for authentication.

  • What are the fees to have a coin authenticated?
The reason I ask, is because I have a complete Mercury dime set.
I have always wondered if the 16-d is what it's suppose to be.
It sure looks legit to me.
Anyone here know the best way to find out?
