I cant say enough about an honest coin dealer........ they're so few and far between......... Dick left a message on my machine today telling me he looked at a coin for me, but knew I wouldnt like it, so he passed on it........... No hemming or hawing, just old school - pull no punches - in your face HONESTY !!!!!!

Darn, I wish I had seen that site a couple months ago when I was looking to fill a couple holes in my library of coins album.

    I'll keep this one bookmarked.

I've known Dick a long time, and I have nothing but praise for the man. He started out as a serious numismatist doing p/t coin dealing on the side in addition to his day job as an engineer. Even now, he remains an avid collector within his singular area of extreme speciality: Seated Halves. As a f/t dealer, his inventory is diverse and comprehensive in terms of the material the vast majority of serious collectors can reasonably afford.

Who here remembers the Heritage sale of the Tommy Dorathy collection of Seated Halves? Not too long ago -- less than 2 years ago, I believe. Anyway, that collection consisted of nearly every Wiley-Bugert variety of that series, and dups. Anyone care to guess who cataloged that collection? (Anyone also want to guess who was the lame brain who spent countless hours poring through the catalog, only to forget to submit the bids?!?)

I've dealt with him extensively from the collector side, and I've always felt he was very ethical and honest with me.

  • I've bought and sold quite a few coins from Dick in the last three years. I have never been disappointed with the way he has handled the transactions and I've never had any second thoughts about the coins he has sold me. He has an extensive inventory of solid collector coins. The only comment I can make about his grading skills is that I have bought a lot of raw coins from him and have slabbed everyone of those coins.......and I have never been disappointed with the result. I put a great deal of stock in his advice about the seated series. And yes, I have sold a lot of coins to him as well.......and his performance in that regard consistently exceeds my expectations.

More than than that, he's just a great guy that loves the hobby and doesn't hesitate to share his knowledge with novice collectors, experienced collectors and other dealers. He doesn't demonstrate an ounce of ego or have a condescending attitude toward those that aren't as knowledgeable as himself. I have seen him spend just as much time with a fellow looking at an album of $10 material as with the fellow at the other end of the table only looking at much more expensive stuff.

I should stop now because it's getting a little too much. But the man is a shining light for this hobby.

    Go well.

I have been looking at his site for some time now. I haven't ordered from him yet but I know that I will. The one thing that I really like is the fact that he doesn't keep changing prices on coins already in stock. If he buys a new coin he generally had to buy it at a higher price than the one already in stock so the price is generally higher. But I expect that. It is just the way things are. I have heard nothing but the best about Dick.

I bought an 1806 O.110 R.6 VG10 half from Dick a couple of months ago, about 20 are known. Dick had four 1806/9 O.111a's on his site, I asked if he had any with a rare reverse double cud, he said no but would put me on his want list. One month later he found one for me in VF20 - this is a very rare coin.

I now have three more rare halves on his want list. He is a great dealer.
