I had a Franklin Press colonial in one of those holders, graded XF, broke it out and PCGS gave it a AU50.

Ahhh, the good old days. I was tempted to cross over one of my old PCI slabs to PCGS (a proof IHC), but I figured it would be more interesting as is. It's actually properly graded, too
I tried to pick up a beautifully toned proof franklin in one of those holders a few months back, and was outbid. Now I'm kicking myself for not coughing up more to snag it (I generally only go for only cameo examples, and this one didn't have that designation). I wish I saw more of those holders on ebay, but they seem few and far between.
My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable !

<< <i>Interesting. I have an 1881 Morgan in one of those slabs, graded as MS60, that is easily a 64. I suspect this coin is about the same way. >>
Wow, that sounds just like one I used to own, but traded it to a really cool guy.
It even looks like the one I use to own.

having such a gorgeous luster I would say that on that basis alone, 63/64 easily today at PCGS!
Jeremy, if your 48 is a 63 in one of those slabs, you may very well be looking at a 66 today!
