What is the oldest coin you've found in change?

My wife's friend was cleaning out her change purse the other day and found an 1898 dime. She has no idea where she got it, and I haven't seen it yet, but this seems kind of old to be still circulating (hope I'm circulating when I'm 106!). Anybody else ever found a Barber in change?

Found an 1859 Indian Head cent back in 87 in change. Very corroded and worn, but able to read most of the date and the reverse.

got some cents from the teens and twenties one time in change at Denny's. asked to buy the rest of the pennies in the till and they did it, got about a dozen more early Lincolns, nothing key but decent fine/vf condition and nice looking.

Thanks mrpaseo! Yep, this one is staying with me. When you find something like this in circulation, it's hard to part with. I said 1909, but it might actually be 1909 VDB. I can make out what appears to be the V, but need to get a photo that shows that clearly. I'll see if I can get that up in a bit.

My uncle larry found 3 silver coins in the 30's, 40's, and 60's, that he gave to me. I found numberous wheat cents. That's about it

Oldest coin in change: 1913 Lincoln. Oldest coin TYPE gotten at face value: in 1989 I asked for a roll of half dollars from my bank, and in that roll I got 7 Franklin Halves. Even more rare than finding a Franklin Half in a roll nowdays, is even GETTING a bank to give you a roll of half dollars anymore!

I remember when I was a kid you could find IHC, buffs, mercs, slq, walker, and Barbers any day in your pocket change. I did find an 09 dime last year.

Interestingly enough.......................since I've started my job sorting coin, I hardly ever look at my pocket change anymore. I used to go through it religiously, but don't recall finding anything more interesting than a wheatie every now and then.

Found about 20 buffalo nickels in a roll last month (the other half of the roll was pre 1959 nickels + one war nickel) and various wheat cents now and again. Oldest cent was probably 1919.

I found an 1895 indian cent in about vf condition about a year ago. It was a cool find; the coin is very nice.

The oldest coin I found in circulation was a 1908 cent. I found a buffalo once too but I forget the date. I found an 1886 cent in a dirt pile at a construction site when I was a kid. Not long after that I found a 1912 cent in our dirt lane.

1863 Indian Cent in decent condition considering it's age and the fact it had been in circulation for heaven knows how long. If graded I guess it would go EF.
