Hi yes, that's me. That particular 1915-D I bought back in about 1995 or 1996 from Heritage. It was in a first-generation holder (rattler) when I first bought it and I sent it for regrade and pedigree when my set was complete and it didn't upgrade to a 64, but it is a very nice. coin. As I have upgraded, I have sold off duplicates and they occasionally show up for sale. I bought a real nice 1915-d in MS 65 to replace your new coin (I remember almost all of my former coins with fond memories) and was all set until about two months later I found an outstanding MS 66 for a reasonable price. Somewhere out there is another 1915-D in MS65 pedigreed to me.

I am hoping to eventually have my entire set upgraded to at least MS 64 and get as many in MS 65 or better as possible. It is a long set (73 coins) and it has become very difficult to find any decent coins to upgrade in my set.

My collecting of barber halves goes beyond my mint state set and I currently have five complete sets in G or better with one completely F to VF. The research done while watching for coins and studying the series has kept me busy and I have learned a lot. The January Coin Dealer Newsletter Monthly Summary contains a cover article written by me highlighting much of the information on rarity in mint state that I have gleaned from many sources.

My mint state set isn't the finest known nor will it ever be. Dr. Steven Duckor has the finest set currently and it will never be duplicated or bettered, in my opinion. Another great set on the registry belongs to Dale Friend and he has just crossed over some of his NGC coins and hasn't updated his set to reflect these recent events.

Any way, congratulations on purchasing the 1915-D half and best of luck to you. I am glad my old friend has found a new home and collection.

    DrPete,

I just flipped through the images for your 1st registry set. The 04-S is amazing! Wow.
