Greysheet: MS-65 morgans up 11% in one week

MS-65 Morgans in common dates went up 11% in one week to $111. I was kinda shocked at such as fast pace increase in just one week. What are your thoughts? Do you see another 8-15% next week?

7% drop over the next week.
  • Not surprised, I expect at least another 8% increase soon.

I don't know if they're going higher or lower, but I will tell you a 65 Morgan at $111 seems pretty cheap compared to the $30 I just spent to fill my gas tank.

I predicted here months ago when these were still around $76-84 that these would be promoted soon enough to the $125 level, and possibly to $150-$225. Morgans are too cheap and too enticing to stay down forever in light of the crazy prices many common 20-65 year old coins bring in gem condition. Just another cycle of the market. The some cycling is already underway on the commems, better date Morgans, and type coins. The only thing that will be left will be Peace Dollars. And those will get their reawakening soon enough too.

Now that the marketeers have been filling their coffers with Morgans at $75-85 for the past year, it's time to realize a little profit from the game by jacking up the bids. Sure, they'll buy a few coins at $111 and drive the price even higher while they slowly unload portions of their positions....and move towards those Peace Dollars!

Yikes, I reminder the last time those rose so quickly, well maybe it wasn't the last time, but it reminds me of the spring of '89image

  • Thats true. I would rather have real bids @ $115 than run up bids at $175 that won't last very long.

Wow, that is a big increase. I can understand an increase in the better dates or the DMPL's but the common dates are the most common of all certified coins. The supply increases every year. I won't be buying into this price increase.

I think RE needs to dump, but better coins won't.

I'm not sure where you buy your gas, but here in L.A. the lowest you ever see now is $2.15, but most places are over $2.25 for regularimage

I'm in SW Florida. But I paid over 2 in Boca Raton last week ( east coast fla).

A friend of mine who ownes a couple of stations thinks it'll be 3 bucks by the elections. But then I watched 60 minutes last night and I thought I heard woodward say that saudi arabia made a deal with this white house to pump more just in time for the election to depress the price temporarily.......

The thought of course remains, what would happen if some of the oil wells were blown up over there. It took us a year to cap them all off in kuwait the last time right? Now that's not going to happen with bullets flying all around. ( gas lines, rationing, oil at 75/barrel?)

Would people actually think it would be a good idea then to buy generic dollars for a couple hundred bucks each?

    I wouldn't.
