EF or XF?

Stupid poll -- do you prefer to use EF or XF as an abbreviation for Extremely Fine?

I use EF. I don't know which is technically correct, just like EF better since "extremely" doesn't start with an "x".

I usually use EF, for the same reason as Russ. I don't care, though, because I don't really like circulated coins.

More often than not, I use XF, because I like the modern spin.

Somehow EF just sounds like an upgrade of F, like F30 is to F20. XF is its own category just like AU. In my mind the grading categories are G for Good, F for Fine, XF for XF, AU for almost uncirculated, and MS for Mint State.

People followed the ANA back in the 80's but today they have no real say or power in the market since they have sold the grading service ANACS in 1991 and their last grading book was dated 1997. NGC, PCGS has taken the place of the grading guides and market in what things should grade.

I have used both in the past, but I lean toward XF.

EF is correct, period.

XF is just a short-hand that some people use just like some people use FN instead of F for Fine and GD instead of G for good.

Then again, some folks may use XF as a short-hand for mint state . . . but that's another thread!

I really don't care as long as the coin makes the grade. I don't like a coin that grades F or VF being labeled XF or EF.
