Hey everyone!! All is wonderful here in Sweden. We went to the bank yesterday to assemble a sale packet of coins in Germany and I was able to see my friends entire collection of rarities. He has entire sets of 16th century everything French, numerous German States,Swedish, Spanish, etc., etc. (some pieces not recorded as being seen on market since the 1800's). One interesting set he has is a gaming token set where allpieces were only minted in 750 pieces each...ultra rarity stuff here. You Brit guys would go for his hammered pieces that are UNC...no kidding, UNC material everywhere. We went to a museum here in Lund today that has an exhibit of a cache of mid´sixteenth century talers that were found in a wall of a building that was being renovated. Beatiful stuff...but it had all been CLEANED (dipped) for the exhibit...he then tookmeto the bank and showed methe same year pieces in his collection that werefresh and stillhad their original skins with beautiful toning. Guys! We're talking millions here. The 10 coins we're taking to Germany are 50K worth alone...and thats for one dealer...I am way out of my league in these partsbut what a wonderful experience. I haven't mentioned his ancients, Asian, etc., etc., etc....I am sitting here writing this surrounded by volumesof binders full of world class coins...and he considers them "scrap"...and the boxes medals are stacked up too. Went through five boxes last night alone and the contained medals from just about everywhere from the 16th century forward. Vern, eat your heart out, he has Napoleonic materialcoming out his ears!!
We go to an auction in Kristianstadt tonight and then travel to Helsingborg to a coin fair tomorrow. We have hit the two coin shops here in town that are pretty amazing too. In honesty, all of this quite overwhelming.
Monday we are off to Germany. The weather is wondeful and we drive in the sports car with the topdown. I doesn't get any better than this...unless I can find some Goetz that is!! None here but I suspect I'll find somein Hamburg on Tuesday.
More later....Scott

There's nothing like an old-time collection, especially classy stuff like that.
Enjoy!

In Scott's post I saw the words UNC and millions; (nowhere did I see the word scrap! Elverno, want to go?
I have been planning another trip to France since I went for two weeks about five years ago. Exactly how difficult would it be to plan a trip to the mother lode for say one or two years hence, involving as many forum members as possible?
It boggles my mind that if I decided to go to England or France tomorrow for 12 hours, all I would have to do is drive for 1/2 hour, jump on a plane, sit in discomfort, visit three or four coin stores in a large metropolitan environment, and then come back. Doing is easy-time off needn't be that hard for a self-indulgent fling, but if you're going to go, it should be at least for two or three days, and that requires planning.

The weather has been unbelievably awesome here the past few days. I'm surprised.
Did you know that for the May 1st weekend, there'll be some kind of EU Economic Summit here in Warsaw, and the whole city will be shut down for fear of the antiglobalists and other terrorists. It will be a mess; I think I'll go to Gdansk that weekend.
Too bad you can't drop on over for a bit.
In the meantime, have fun with the super-caches of coins.
