What hobby(ies) do you have? What's your passion?

Enough about what you do for a living; what do you do to enjoy life?

A fellow I knew once told me that your hobby is more important than your livelihood, it's your life! You should
devote more energy to your hobbies/crafts than you do to your job to serve your sense of self.

I know that a bunch of folks here spend 'way too much time on the keyboards; so do I. Bad habit, mostly.
I know that a bunch of us collect, barter/trade and sell/buy coins.

What do you do to give some other perspective to your life?

I sing (choir and close-harmony Barbershop-style music), and play bluegrass and celtic music for fun, fish on the
river with the 'good ol' boys', and hunt birds to make it all meaningful. Coins are a passion, and the flames are hot!

Every day is a gift.

Besides coin collecting, I enjoy playing my guitar, chatting/checking-forums/playing-games/etc on the computer and, in general, hanging out with my friends.

Hiking in nature, spending time with my son, woodworking with my uncle, being with my wife. I also like to watch a movie once in a while, but never watch TV. I do web development and like working with graphics, etc. I'm also an artist; paint, drawing, medal sculpture.

Other than that my interests are all collecting. Lincoln cents, Greek coins (modern), and one very odd one...those little license plates that used to come out of cereal - I have hundreds of them.

  • I like playing shooting games (Rainbow Six,Half-Life,Quake,Unreal Tournament, etc.) and fishing.
  • I travel all over the world taking pictures for skiing and mountaineering magazines. I wish that I could do that full time, but the money isn't good enough, otherwise I would. For now it's just a passion.

I consider myself one of the lucky people whose hobby and true life passion turned into my profession! People actually pay me to ride and train their show horses (hunters and jumpers). Quite the adrenalin rush, sitting on a 1500 lb animal and feeling the power they unleash to jump a bigger fence.
Besides the horses, I have a 6 year old daughter and a six month old son who both keep me young and make me old.image
Lastly, I like to collect old, tarnished silver coins!image

My great passion is sailing. I own a Nonsuch 30 and sail coastal New England from Maine to Atlantic City, with a planned cruise to Bermuda this year.

Coins come in at a close second while my other hobby is collecting vintage Fender Stratocasters.

I post quite a bit during the non-sailing season, but after this week (boat is launched this coming Monday) you will see less of me.

    Cheers,

    Bob

My real passion is backpacking. I plan on thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail (commonly referred to as ATimage) in 2008 for my 50th birthday. It will take over five months to hike the entire 2165 miles. I have hiked over 900 miles of the AT on section hikes as well as over a 1000 miles of other trails over the years. I plan to add about 200 miles this year. Nothing is more satisfying than taking a two week walk in the woods carrying everything you need on your back.

Oh, I also collect an occasional coin when I'm not hiking.image
