Any "$5 Special" invoices outstanding?

I was wondering if anyone still has their invoices for the $5 special still outstanding? I have 2 still out there and a "Mechanical error" still outstanding. The "Mechanical Error" (PSA's error) out for over 6 weeks. Anyone know how long it takes them to do that?

  • Yea, I sent in 100 cards that they received on 20 Feb; Logged in on 2 Mar. The 35 business days are up on Friday. They say that they won't miss any deadlines but if they make mine it will be down to the wire.image
  • I've still got 1 outstanding... sent 2/29; received 3/4; logged in 3/23 (I forgot to mark the box!!)

Strange part is, the box contained 2 other invoices which have already been graded, returned, and received by me. All 3 invoices were 160 cards... I'm confused how they decide which order to process next.

Too bad they can't give better updates about where a particular invoice stands in the process. My attempts to find out were answered with basically It's not late, don't worry about it.

    I have 2 outstanding submissions.

Both were received on 3/4 and logged in on 3/25. One is a 2 card "mechanical error" submission and I was notified that it shipped today. The other is a 145 card submission that is still in the process of being graded.

<< <i>What exactly is a "mechanical error" at PSA? >>

A "mechanical error" refers to a card that is incorrectly labeled by PSA on the flip. It could be anything from a misspelling of a name to the wrong year listed. PSA reholders these cards at no cost with the corrected information printed on the new flip. The cert # remains the same, in case you wondered.

  • My 43 card submission was graded on day 35. Good luck with all of yours.
  • I have a 190 card Submission that was received on 3/4 and has yet to have been graded.

  • Jeff,

I just sent in a mechanical error and had it back within 10 days of when I sent it. Just a single card with a misprinted flip.

I just had this $5 special just come in yesterday , graded on day 32. invoice
  • I have two outstanding. One 25 card submission that was logged on Feb 28th and one 75 card submission that was logged on Mar.6th. Oh well all I can do is wait. I had one that was logged on March 13 and already got the results for those 10 days ago. Go figure!

I am in the same boat as Clementefan. I had about a 70 card order received February 20th and logged in on March 1st. I have calculated the due date also to be tomorrow, Friday. If I do not have my grades by then, I will be requesting the comps. I am a little miffed that other orders, received and logged later than mine, have already been done. So I will see what happens!
  • Hi

I rec'd an email today stating that the clock starts when they input the cards into the system. That has to help meeting deadlines. Here's the response:

"Unfortunately we start the day count when we receive your order into our grading system, so you are on the 28th business day. This is per PSA President . I wish I could help you out."

I sent an email in to check on my mechanical error that's been there for 6 weeks on Monday. Rec'd a reply back same day stating she (Cassi) would look into it. 4 days....no response. I'm glad I don't treat my clients that way or I would be out of business.

    one 2/12/04 yippee free grades

    one 3/1/04 patiently waiting
  • PSA Better check what they write on the submission form. It clearly states that the time starts when they receive the cards. Not when they decide to log them in. They would loose that battle in court everytime on regular submissions.

By the way. You may want to check out the fine print. It also states that "Special Submissions" are not included in the 35 Day guarantee(Which means that we can't get free submissions because they were late). So they can take as long as they want to grade our cards and there isn't anything we can do about that.

I respectfully disagree with you Clementefan. If PSA makes a guarantee, and we as submitters rely on the guarantee, we are in a strong position to request free gradings. Why else would the guarantee matter? If there is no way to hold PSA to its guarantee, it is a false guarantee. From PSA's perspective, it is not obligated to guarantee anything. It has elected to make a guarantee on the specials. Put it this way, would you submit your cards knowing the 35 day guarantee was false and that your cards could be returned 60 days later? Six months later? A year later? Probably not. In my case, the stated guaranteed turnaround time ALWAYS plays a role in whether I will submit and the number of cards I will submit.

I also believe the guarantee starts to run when the cards are received, not when logged in. If it were the latter, that too would be deceiving (it certainly did not say this when the special was advertised). Think of what could happen here: PSA could conceivably hold your cards 10 days, 20 days, four months, a year (you get the point) and then log them into the system at that later point in time. What would you think then?

Now, I know many people may say "PSA can do what it wants regardless of what we think." That is true to a degree. However, when PSA makes a promise of a guaranteed turnaround time and us as submitters rely on that promise, it cannot later try to modify, disregard or change that promise. In my situation, if my grades are not posted tomorrow, PSA will hear about it.

PSA is of course free to change the rules on future submissions. If it does not want to guarantee turnaround times, it can do that. However, if guarantees are posted, they must be honored.

With the above said, let me state I am an avid PSA supporter. I believe PSA accurately grades and I rather like the 10 point grading scale (I might be in the minority when I state that I do not care for half grades; this is not rocket science). I also actively participate in the set registry. Regardless, if I am made a promise (i.e., 35 day turnaround guarantee) and I rely on that promise, you can "guarantee" I will put up a fuss if it is not met.
  • I wish I had your confidence MEFER with PSA. I think that they bit off more than they can chew by offering another special before they graded our special. Today my cards were supposed to be graded. I'm still waiting and will call PSA up today but I was told by them on Monday that the Guarantee starts the day they receive them at the grading area and logged in, not the day they receive in mail. I explained to the women that I talked to on the phone that is not what the submisson form states, but was told that was PSA's Policy. She stated that she would check for me but hasn't called me back yet. I'm sure that when I do call today, I will get the answer that I got before and that is I have one more week until my cards are past the 35 day business days (from date of entering in computer). So I wait.
  • You know its irritating when a customer service rep says they will check into things and don't ever get back to you. 5 days and counting for them to check on something for me ---my "mechanical error" thats been there for 7 weeks now.

  • Anyone else still waiting... I keep checking every day thinking, "They've got to be done today". From the same order, the first 2 invoices were graded and returned 2 WEEKS AGO!!

The only difference is a handful of unusual cards on this invoice. Anyone else that is still waiting have oddball cards on their outstanding invoices?

Cards were received 29 business days ago and logged in 16 business days ago. Less than halfway to the "guarantee" time, but painful because 2/3 have already been graded...

Still waiting for my two orders from the February $5 Special:

one delivered 2/26/04 logged in 3/1/04
    .... "No date specified"

one delivered 3/4/04 logged in 3/15/04
    .... "No date specified"
  • Yeah, I'm curious- I know this has been discussed before but I submitted a 30-day ticket submission (sent 3/10/04). It arrived (according to my USPS delivery confirmation receipt) 3/12/04.

It didn't get posted into the system until 3/27/04.

Doesn't seem quite right that PSA can wait until whenever to post it into the system.

Anyways, I'm just excited to get back my submission. I'm sure it'll arrive sooner or later and I know the 30-day submissions are just guidelines and not guarantees.

PS. And asking customer service about the status of my shipment didn't really work. I got the runaround 3 different times and finally just gave up. Thankfully they got received - albeit 2 weeks later on the 27th.

I have a 60+ card submission that was mailed out on 2/27, but not logged in until until 3/13... PSA still has 10 days to go on the turnaround. I expect to wait the full 10 as I have not even bothered to call customer service... but like everyone else, I can't wait to get them back! Almost all Ryan cards!
  • Well I have a 75 card submission logged on the 6th of March so it is getting close to D Day. I am checking every hours it seems like now.

  • Just to let you guys know, there is NO guarantee for "Special" Submissions. I was told by Alisha that Annabelle (Joe's Assistant) told her that I could not get any free submissions for my cards that were graded after 35 business days. I have decided that since PSA isn't concerned with customer satisifaction then I am no longer submitting to them. Seems like they will try what they can not to go in customers favor. Sorry PSA. No more business from me.

Rob , you snake! just kidding . my 60's sub has been sitting for a while . I don't even bother any more as turnaround times in general will most likely be months instead of weeks until the end of the summer with the backlog that got created with the $5 special.

as bad as it sounds , we will continue to submit to psa as long as the cards recognize a premium over other companies. if you don't you will lose on both ends, your initial turnaround time and from submitting to another company . heck it was a $5 special, sucks if they miss some turnaround times but for $5 you can't beat it anywhere
  • I am waiting to send in a 100+ card $6 common submission until after my Feb 28 sent/Mar 30 logged sub is done. I really want to get Frank over 65%.

  • How's this for a great update from PSA Customer Service... like I couldn't figure out how to count business days myself!!

    Hello,

This is still going through the grading process. We are currently on
the 26th business day. It shouldn't be too much longer before it is
    complete.

Please let us know if you have further questions.

    Thank you

Any chance you could give me an update about the status of this invoice

I guess I must be extremely lucky. I sent in a submission in the last few days of February, it was received March 6, graded the 15th, and I had my cards back on the 18th.

    Order 4151115, Zip 77840.

Proof that it can be done.

  • I sent 50 cards in, logged in as of 3/16. Nothin' yet...
  • Hi

I just noticed that PSA added some more fine print behind the asterisk

PSA's turnaround guarantee assures you that PSA will have grades available in the number of business days specified.
Guarantees are invalid during weeks of major card shows PSA attends. To see a listing of these shows go to www.psacard.com

Knock out a few of the last weeks in their entirety because PSA went to shows.
    what next ?
