I just heard that you bought that "artifically toned" PCGS-MS67 (REPEAT, PCGS-MS67) 1926 OREGON for $69,000!!! TWICE AS MUCH AS THE PCGS-MS69 SOLD FOR!!! TWO QUESTIONS:
1. HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND?
2. WHAT IS YOUR MONSTER TONED PCGS-MS69 BOONE PRICED AT TODAY THEN?
WONDERCOIN
P.S. Congratulations on filling your Oregon slot!

<< <i>I understand that Coingame2000 was the underbidder with a cut bid at $57,500 >>
I'd guess he's probably regretting selling it about 20 years ago for $1100.

When one is as passionate about their collection as David is with his monster toned Commems, the money is truly secondary to the cause. I suspect Coingame2000 had a collector in mind for the coin as well where the pursuit of excellence was all that was the issue

In fact, MS68 proudly called me after the auction to tell me of his latest acquistion Dave also told me it was Ok to mention Coingame2000 in a post, if I chose to do one, due to his utmost respect for him. Not to mention the auction was PUBLIC
Wondercoin
<< <i>How nice is it to name these folks and what they bid? >>
I'm sure he would never do so without their express permission.
Russ, NCNE
So MS68 told you, but Coingame told you also? Or you took it upon yourself to mention him?

I still wonder what Coingame himself would think....

Lucy - Yes, if you chose to bid secretly, you could do that in a variety of ways, including the auction house executing a bid for you. On the other hand, one can bid "open and notoriously" in a public auction for all the world to see. If the Channel 9 news wanted to carry the "blow by blow", "bid by bid" story as their top news story of the day, wouldn't that be cool too

<< <i>whooops, i see your edit were Dave gave you permission to mention Coingame.... hmmmm....

Since coingame is a dealer I doubt the publicity will hurt any. If I was a top end dealer I sure would not
mind some free publicity. In fact I would be happy to let everyone know that I was willing to step up to the plate so to speak. >>
Well, I won't take it upon myself to speak for Coingame2000, you could be right, you may also be wrong.....

I mean that in a good way
I have to admit that I paid more than I wanted to for the coin, but when I viewed it on Wednesday, I knew it was going in my set no matter what the price. It is hands down the most beautiful commem I have ever seen. I figured that if I get outbid for this, then I might as well just sell the entire collection and I am just not ready to do that. Sometimes you just have to say "What the $*&@" and let the chips fall where they may.
Your coin that is missing, no updates on it?

There are quite a number of ways for you maintain your anonymity in the auction game. None are perfect, but most are pretty darn good and should be adequate for most situations.

Tim- Sounds like a great idea to have this coin included in the photo gallery. Maybe at Long Beach?
Sounds great - let's finish the ones we couldn't get to at FUN.
<< <i>Lucy- No news on the 1919-S SLQ in PCGS 67FH that was stolen in the Superior lot pickup room right before the start of the FUN show. I put out a flier offering a $10,000 reward for the return of it, so I am still hopeful that it will turn up at some point. Thanks for the link to my Commem highlights courtesy of Tim.

I am really hoping you bring good news about this.... What happened is really terrible..
Congrats on your latest and most lovely purchase.....

Craig: My thoughts exactly. My respect for these top bidders only got stronger after considering this auction. One of most beautiful Commems on the planet only comes up for sale every so often. You either step up or think "what could have been" for years to come. I've been in the position many times of needing to "cut a bid" after stretching as far as I could possibly stretch for an auction coin. That "cut bid" to a veteran bidder is usually a sign that you have gone as far as possible, if not well beyond your original expectations - to stretch for a coin.
Dave - If the Dupont coin can turn up this many years later, you piece can as well. We are all keeping an eye out for the coin for you.

<< <i>Did someone say that Lucy was going to be auctioned off? >>
hmmm....
I wonder if the bidders would want to remain private on that one?

Congrats Dave. I'm glad to see the collector side won.

Big E, the 144 pc set is "wide open". (steal the key-pop3 Grant with Star ms67 on ebay soon; check www.wondercoin.com's sales)
I just walked in from the airport and read this thread. Yes, I was in fact the underbidder on the PCGS MS67 Oregon at $57,500 and feel mildly disappointed that I wasn't able to acquire it. I did not have a client in mind for the coin but just wanted to have an old friend back for a while. As you know, it's been the icon coin on my website from day one. Although I'm disappointed -- I'm glad that Dave was able to procure it for his monster toned commem collection -- congratulations Dave.....
