OT: Do you ever wonder about you user ranking here?

A week or so, I saw in my profile that I had 18 votes for an average score of 5.00.

I've never shown for sure, on their scale of 1-10, whether it's better to get
higher or lower scores (I'm assuming 10 is tops). In any case, my ranking
might mean 9 people hate me and 9 people love me, or maybe 18 people
think I'm really mediocre. And what are the rankings based on, anyways?

So then I looked at it today, and saw that someone else had voted! I
now have 19 votes, for a score of 5.26! Now, whoever it was that voted
for me and raised my score, I thank you! I think

Do you ever wonder who it is voting for you and why?

I have an imposible ranking of 5.99 average on 20 votes. Must be a floating point error in the computer.

Mine is 5.56 with 55 people voting. I know that I got "boat load" of 1's (lowest) from the folks who have paid or who sell high grade modern modern coins at very high prices when I tried warn them that the buyers were taking very high risks.

If you have an opinion around here, chances are you are going to be in the 5 to 6 range because about half the people will agree with you and half either disgree with you or would like you to go away.

I suspect that low ratings are given by people who disagree with you. Does that make you wrong, or a bad person? I think not. I always give everybody a 10.

One thing I have noticed is that women consistently get higher rankings than men.

Well...this was gonna be a raise my ranking (hopefully) and a cheet thread for me until I read Bill Jones' reply; now I actually have something to say in my reply:

I've paid wild prices for modern coins on many occasions; yet I gave you a "10" in the rankings. Why? Because I think you have a lot of solid, no-nonsense knowledge about numismatics and you appear more than willing to share it with this forum in an calm and rational manner. I think you have reasonable generalized opinions about moderns; but think that circumstances that have yet to fully develop will eventually prove that you were incorrect.

If everyone thought the way I did about the coins I collect I wouldn't be able to afford them.

I pay a lot of attention to mine and several others just out of curiousity. Usually I know
exactly who gave me a ranking and why. There have been bouts of low or high rankings
which are either the result of PM's or lurkers. I suspect the latter.

Responding to threads like this or starting such threads generally will bring out at least
a couple who are going to rank you but you never know what will bring out the bashing.

my rating used to be below 3 on half a dozen votes, someone used to strongly disagree with me, probably on account of my my views on the relative prices of coins that are "old and scarce in ANY grade" vs. "new and very common, only scarce in PERFECT grade"

even now, it's only up to 4.75 on 20 votes.

Well, I just gave you a 10, not only because I appreciate the fact that you are so straight forward, but also because I like the fact that you share pictures of lots of different coins, not just your very best ones. Plus, you collect my favorites - draped bust silver.

I've wondered about my ranking before. I enabled it the first day I was here and 2 people gave me a rating of 10. Then I noticed right after I posted something new that someone else rated me and my rating dropped to a 7. I figured someone must of gave me a low rating because they thought my question was weak or something? I think I'll go in and give some good ratings to people in this post.

I have not checked it in a long time. I never rate anyone and I'm not sure what they are sposed to mean. If I do business with you I care more about your check being good than I do about your user rating.

Actually your ranking has very little meaning in how people view you. The direction in
which it's moving is of far more importance and is the groups' opinion of how your doing
at any given time. The number of rankings also is of more importance but largely is just
a reflection of how many controversial threads you've been in.
