This was buried in the very long thread about the coin and I thought maybe many didn't get a chance to view it. Plus, the images posted were HUGE and difficult for dialuppers. So I grabbed it and resized it to make it easier for everyone to view.

Eh... it's ok... I'd much rather have a circulated example... VF30 or so, I think... would give the coin some real character... real history... I find that much more interesting than, "Oh it's the best example we've seen, so it MUST be the first one ever minted." Unwarrented assumption... for a coin this old, I want something with a little character behind it, when I see an early 19th century coin, if it's untoned, I tend to wonder if it's been played with, b/c it strikes me that a coin that old, should have some kind of color, at least on a circulated coin...

I just read an article about our early coinage. The dollar was not produced in large quantities due to the extensive use of Spanish (actually Mexican) coins, e.g., the reale. However, most folks prefer to collect the U.S. coinage, which, like this one, was actually used much less than the Spanish coins.
