Met a coin dealer I went to college with at the Portland ANA

I was wandering around, just getting back to my local dealers table, when someone called my name (which I did not expect to hear). I turn around and vaguely recognize the person. He tells me his name (which I immediately remembered) and we talked for a bit. Even though we have the same degree, I knew him from the weight room. He said the collecting coins had gotten the best of him in the 90's (sound familiar?) and he became a full time dealer. Anyone run into an old friend this way before?

One of the better moments today at the show. I didn't know anyone from my "former" life would collect coins.

That would have been a heck of a surprise, I'm sure!

I found out that a guy I went to high school with (we only had 186 in our class) is a customer of a big-name dealer. I never knew then that he collected, and now he lives a couple thousand miles away. I'm going to keep an eye out at the Pittsburgh ANA just in case he comes to the show - I might be able to pull the same thing on him that happened to you! image

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
