<< <i>roach, are any of your chrome retrofractors for trade? I am trying to put together that set...are you trying to do it too? >>
I currently have 6 Sung Jung, 4 Carlos Quentin, 3 Jeff Allison, and 1 50/50 centered Matt Creighton. Just prospecting, not putting a set together. What do you need? Maybe I can help.

Yes it did. Thank you very much. Guess what I found at my local Target today? 2 more boxes. I swore that I wouldn't buy more because of the lack of success on my last retail box. Well, I gamnled anyway with one of the 2 boxes.
Pretty good luck I suppose. I pulled the Jeter SP, Manny Ramirez "Old Logo" SP, Edwin Jackson SP, Moises Alou "Old Logo" SP, and about 7 other of the high number SP's. I pulled a Brandon Webb Chrome and the key card was a Kerry Wood Clubhouse Collection Jersey Relic Card. Overall not bad.
What would a Matt Moses Black Refractor be worth paying for?
TheRoach
I know what you mean - I went to the store for my wife and there on the shelf are two retails - well, what the heck. Did get some sp fills and good cards but my wife took my credit card! I'm still 9 sp's short: 92 120 412 413 423 435 436 455 466! It's one of Topps better sets overall and worth the chase IMO.

Ditto, I have yet to "sort" the case......
I think the "pull" the cards have also come down to the challenge of putting a whole set together, the card design, and of course the gum. Some people do not look at it as an investment. Some still think of this as a hobby.

Read my post really slow..... no slower, did I say "ME", or did I say SOME? Im in it for the money to a degree. I do not "collect" baseball. Im in the baseball for the "money". I have a small business license and a website (not ready yet). Im not out to make money "hand over fist" but would like enough to pay for the cards I buy and to be able to buy more.
Now football I will "sock" some cards away (teams players I like) but those get sold also.
Yet there are SOME people that still collect to collect and I can respect and appreciate that, even to a degree where (depending on the card and person that wants it) book value would get overlooked. There are a few already that I would have no problem giving a "big" discount on a card I have that I have no intrest in except for "money".
Nice try, have a nice day and please come again.
looking for some stupid graded card of someone that no one cares about anymore. Living in the past
forever!
Topps Heritage is wonderful set to collect, I know of only one person here who actually intended it as
a chance to make money in the beginning. There are many collectors here who were attracted to the
set by the looks and by the challange to get all the cards...isn't that what it used to be about??
After these retail boxes, that none of us anticipated, it now seems like we can not only collect the
set but make a liltle money on it! Suddenly a few sour grapes jump on here and call us low lifes
becuase all we can talk about is money. I brought up this thread to make trades a bit easier, as
before the pricing, we have had nothing to determine what the cards were worth, and while these
prices aren't always accurate, it is a decent guide for most.
I, for one, have found it great what a reception topps heritage has made here. There are collectors
here who haven't touched a modern card in years, but who are now enjoying this. If someone wants
to turn a few bucks too I think thats great.
If you were too stubborn to get on board and now can't find any, then I pity you, maybe you will
be wiser next time, but don't come on here and try to ruin it for the rest of us.
Thanks

Hey Aknot, this Carew4Me guy likes to come in and instigate trouble on threads that he has no interest in to begin with. I found that if you just tell him off in one of your responses, he usually crawls back into his corner and continues fondling his vintage cards.
I agree with Kevin. If you don't like these cards and are obviously upset that you missed out on the fun and possible profits that these cards have to offer, why would you even come into a thread titled 2004 HERITAGE PRICING IS OUT. No, you're not instigating though. Get real.

Well said, Roach.
As one of the people who hasn't touched modern stuff since 1993 and hasn't bothered building a new set since 1991, I'm having fun with these cards. The fact that they're worth a little something helps me justify (both to myself and the wife) the amount I've spent on them in the last month.

I dont mind explaining myself. I mean if you do look at some of my post he has a "semi" valid point. But its all about the delivery and I understand exactly what you mean.
I like the 2004 Heritage issue, beautiful "vintage looking" cards.
I was not critical in any way of people collecting this, but I love calling out hypocrits where ever
I see them.
We are all collectors here, so please , save it, in the end its all about the money.
Aknot between you, me and God, I wopuld say your fingers are blisterd and bleeding from paging
back and forth through Beckett trying to figure out how big your $2400 score is.
Its all about the money, not now when your building, but when you become board and sell them.
In fact, if these cards caught crazy money fire, you would ALL sell.

Yes and no. I have pulled all the Marinos and Phins cards for my own collection and (along with all my other Phins stuff) would never sell them, regardless of their price. So NO there. I have also pulled all the Mannings for a fellow collector that they (depending what they need) will get a good/fair price.
Yes because I bought them for the sole purpose of reselling them. I never "hid" that fact.
BUT I am also a collector so certain things I will collect and have no inclination to sell. As I believe other people do.
The Heritage and Prestige cases I bought will be sold. I busted them both and will sell all I can (actually that Randy Johnson looks cool enough to keep) because that is why I bought them. Again I have never "hid" that fact.
If I get $1 for EVERY card in that auction I won I would make out like a bandit. But I wont, so I have to invest my time into inventory, scanning etc. and still MAY not make enough to cover it. Will that make me run and sell my "private" collection? Nope. I will just have to adjust my "business model".
Please point out my hypocrisies. Im willing to discuss this further. And will freely admit if Im incorrect.

Well I got some refractors and the parralell of the refractors. 3 Game used (one damaged want to return has "finger smudge through glue and a dent) and an auto of a "vintage" palyer. Do not remember his name. As for the SP's and "variants" of the reg issue I have yet to sort them. I have a small pile that I know from either the number or player.
You know as I stated before (for anyone else that is reading) I never kept up with baseball so I hardly know any of the players. Im a football man. Im into the baseball for the money.
<< <i>If no one was out to make money on cards, would there be any to buy? >>
As in the "public"? Of course. A lot of people do collect for money. But there are still some that collect for the "fun" of it. Its hard to find them and there are a few on the boards but yes I think it would still be a "hobby" to some.
Topps and the others would probably package the cards another way (candy, gum, toys, etc.) like it originally started. I do not think it can ever get back that way though.

For someone that is so critical about others, you sure have alot of work to do on your spelling. I mean, I can understand a typo, but you really need to take some courses. "Hypocrites" and "Bored" come to mind as words you need help with.
But really, it's ok. Don't feel bad.

Quit bashing other threads if you don't like them. Your stupid, childish "Barney Fife" references to Aknot have no place on this thread either. Do you want us all to start making fun of you for wasting $50 on a Tom Landry PSA 4?? The seller of that card you purchased is popping a bottle of champagne right now that he was able to unload that card to someone. PSA 4? What is the description of such a low grade, VERY POOR? LOL
Maybe is it was Mantle. I'd still probably save my $$.

Its ok, next year you will be wiser, we understand your position. I would be grumpy too trying to chase
the same set for 20 years. The funny part may be that when you finally hit your goal it might all be
worthless! LOL
So do you collect someones opinon? It doesn't seem to me like there is anything else to you, but what
some guy in a cubical farm thinks. Grading seems all very hit or miss to me, they tell me that it is all
subjective, but some guys get higher grades and some guys switch cards and some companies
lose cards......
Still basing your entire collection on that? That sounds pretty flimsy to me. I can see where you get your
anger from...oh well, maybe next year you get in on this heritage fun.
Thanks

Im sorry and I do not want "assume" anything. Just who were you refering to being an "a*s clown" who had his father purchase him some Heritage boxes?
I appreciate you clearing this up. Hows that research into my hypocrisies going?
i've completed every master set since 2001 and with the exception of 2001 i made money by buying 2 cases on presell and getting the dupes up within days of them going live.
this year, i spent less than 1000 bucks on two cases and about 50 bucks to complete the set. i made about 800 selling dupes so if the set books for 500 i'm way ahead of the game, realistically by the end of the year you should be able to buy the set for around 300.
when done right a HERITAGE set should be a no lose deal!
i'm waiting for a shipment of 2000 card saver 2's because i plan to slowly have every heritage set graded in PSA 9 and 10, and you know what? one day one of my descendants will make some serious cash by selling them. these sets will be one of the few out of 100's of issues that will hold ANY value from this era.
edited for glaring spelling errors

No, I wouldn't trade my Thomas Titanium RC/75 because there is only 75 that exist in the world and it will have a great resale value here in Chicago. How many of those Landry PSA 4's are their? For the record, I think Heritage is a nice product and I like the positive impact it has had on this board. I'm more of a vintage collector, so I'd rather have a PSA 7 1962 Topps Football Jim Brown than a master set of Heritage, but I appreciate some modern cards for their design.

"Trolling" around stirring up trouble.
Will be busy my main PC is "down" and Im reconfiguring. Keep the Troll at bay....
... the more people who stay away from the “vintage” stuff I collect, the better. My beef is about collectors (especially kids) sinking tons of money into modern high-grade cards because they think that they have something rare. If you're player collecting and need that gem ARod-refractor-glow in the dark-limited edition-whatever card, fine. If you are buying for investment purposes, then I believe (and so do many others) that such prices will go the way of Beenie Babies, Pokemon, etc.
I sank money into Donruss and Fleer in the early '80s, until some of the hobby's big collectors shared their wisdom. Modern cards are generally not a good investment; I have a right to express this. If you believe this, and still want to pay super inflated prices, then fine. $5200 gets you a 1995 Bowman’s Best Guerrero or a nice Goudey Ruth. Does this make the owner of the Guerrero card inferior, of course not? But my long dollar bet is on the Ruth.
So why bother you with personal opinion? I guess I'm tired of hyped Ebay listings touting things that they are not. Heritage cards are very eye pleasing, you should be proud to own some. Maybe this modern set will retain its hype, unlike the scores of post ‘80s ones that have not. However, maybe it’s my bad eyesight, but whenever I see any newsworthy auctions or record breaking prices, I could swear it’s coming from the vintage market.
Collect and have fun, but high ROI expectations on cards – from any year – is a dangerous thing. Then again, I don’t know anything since I spend my money on high priced Venezuelan cards that nobody wants.
