About 10 AM this morning I decided to drive to Portland and attend the Coin Show and view the Heritage Merc dimes that will be up for auction.
The bad part first. The coin show was for dealers only today. It opens up for the public tomorrow and also Wednesday. The woman at the door, who was a little stand offish, was not concerned that I was there to view coins. Finally I asked if a collector could view the auction coins and she consented to let me in. Whew, I actually thought the 180 mile drive was going to be for nothing.
The bad part two. Only two of the Mercs really interested me. Blast white coins may be nice for some folks but they did little for me.
Now the Excellent part. The Heritage employee took me by the hand, I really needed help, and seated me next to a gentleman that had a slug of coins in front of him. After the sheet was filled out and the coins were being brought to me I just happen to be glancing around. The guy with the slug of coins turned toward me and revealed his name tag. Right then I said to myself, Holy Smoke I got seated next to Mark Feld. Of course I knew who he was but he had no idea who in the heck I was. Introductions were made and a little chit chat was had between both of us. As usual, which members always seem to state, Mark was very busy.
Well that was the extent of my 6 and one half hour round trip to Portland. The old interstate will be hit again Wednesday morning.

<< <i>Some day I hope to meet the legendary Coinguy1. >>
Russ, you can't miss him. If you see someone walking (kind of running) with their feet moving faster than their body..... that be him. BTW, you're pretty close to this show aren't you? You should get on over there.
Bad Rumor.... Mark did say he has been to the PNNA but I do not think it was last year. BTW he IS a nice guy. Thats coming from a Grumpy Old Guy like me......

Congrats, you got your feet wet at the viewing table. Coinguy1 is a super guy, I met him at the FUN this year. It would be fun to catch him when he has some time to chat. A very busy guy.
So, I am planning my trek from Bozeman (a 12 hour drive) on Thursday. I could divide the drive between Wed. and thurs., but that'd be pushing it for my work schedule. What to do?
