I'm real excited about purchasing my first ever Proof Morgan today (in over 30 years of collecting them) !! The obverse is a nice complement to my author icon coin on the left.

Awesome!
She deserves the best seat in your collection.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

As you know, I got it from a really nice forum member who is quite a market maker for toned coins, and who has a very sharp eye for grading -- especially Morgan Dollars
I consider him a personal friend and a great source of high quality coins -- as well as PCGS Blue Boxes

Congrats now you can start on your proof registry set.
You should let the forum members guess the grade prior to posting it.
Before I announce the grade, how would you like to vote on what you think the grade should be in the poll on this thread, Grade the 1898 Proof Morgan because I respect your opinions, and I'm also I'm curious what my fellow forum members consensus of opinion is on this coin.
I'll post the grade on Saturday evening to give you some time to respond, if that's OK with you...

<< <i>Stuart: Grade is irrelevant. The eye appeal of your coin is stellar. >>
RGL: Thanks for your complimentary comments about the eye appeal of my 1898 Proof Morgan.
I agree with your above comment on grading 100%!!
I gain the most enjoyment from coins that I feel have great aesthetic beauty and outstanding eye appeal. What attracted me to (hooked me on) this particular coin is the wonderful chromatic symmetry of the peripheral metallic blue, merging with reddish-brown colored, concentric toning on the obverse which happens to complement my 1799 Bust Dollar author icon coin (image at left).
She also posesses beautiful brown peripheral toning on the reverse which gracefully progressively fades towards the center of the coin's reverse.
This is my kind of toner!!

However, I (and others) generally agree that the coin has much better eye appeal than one would normally associate with a Proof 62 grade level. The toning really enhances the eye appeal of the coin, and also serves to make the hairlines less obvious.

I know I am staying up too late to mention the fallacy of this statement, but how can you collect something for over 30 years before purchasing your first one?
(the coin is awesome, I just love to point out mis-statements. Dont' kill the messenger!)
Stu-Ball,
