Why don't bidders read this guy's negative feedback?

  • ksh - So, since people get ripped off all the time, we should sit back and let it happen when we could at least reduce it by calling these scum bags on it? This is not an exact quote but, "All that evil needs to succeed is for good men to do nothing"

Personally, I'm emailing ebay on every one of these deceptive coin auctions I find.

I said,...I'm not saying it's right or wrong, it's just a simple fact of life, and we can't change or do anything about the large majority of them....

  • If find it quite disturbing that all of the "problem" auctions from that seller have been marked as private. This tells me he is as crooked as a rocker rail. Why have to hide the auctions if he was truly being honest and his descriptions did not show any slight of words?? You can interperate his wording 6 different ways, but the seller tipped his hand when he privatized the auctions as to what he was actually doing. His actions basically scream out I did something wrong, and its my intention to hide this fact. There also seems to be a pattern where too many different buyers came across the same problem with the same results, made the same negative feedback, and got the same lame response in retaliation.

<< <i> Agreed, and until it is learned, if they want to go around spending a bundle on things they are ignorant about yet, that's their business. But don't expect me to feel sorry for them. If you don't know about what you are buying either get help or don't buy. And if you do buy in ignorance and get taken, take your lumps and learn from it. Don't whine about something that is your own error.

Condor, I agree with much of what you have posted that I have seen and you are very knowledgable in the coin field. However, items like this post are elitist and ignorant in their own right. >>

Hardly. If you will note I didn't say anything about coins in the section you quoted. That is a GENERAL axiom applicable to ALL fields. If you get into ANYTHING new where you don't know much about it, and start spending large sums of money without getting advice first they will eventually get taken. And I repeat "if you do buy in ignorance and get taken, take your lumps and learn from it." (You get taken after getting advice from the knowledgeable, THEN you can whine.) If you think it is elitist to believe that people should educate themselves before spending large sums of money or taking responsiblity for their own mistakes so be it, but I disagree.

<< <i>They may also not know where they can get help. Many of today's kids are great at computers, but not all are. Have you seen the post yesterday asking how many of the YNs know other YNs at their schools? Not many know others. You think all YNs have found their way here? I doubt it. So, if they don't find there way here, don't know others at their school, who are they supposed to learn from and trust? >>

Ok, so maybe they don't know anyone who can help them, does that mean that they should just go ahead and spend a lot of money and just hope everything works out ok? HECK NO! If you don't know what you are dealing with you NEVER spend more than you can cheerfully afford to lose. As for what to learn from, start with books. You know, those paper things with covers, can usually be found in libraries. (Sorry, I know you realy don't deserve that, but I'm tired and I always get frustrated with our society that always seems to feel that everyone should be protected from ever having a bad experience.)

<< <i>So, the way you state things, it is their own fault they are "ignorant" and they should learn from it. BULL! >>

As one who started ignorant, as do we all, I'll say it is only a "fault" if you don't do anything about it. But it IS the "ignorant" persons responsibility to get that "fault" corrected. How they chose to do it is up to them. If they chose to use the School of Hard Knocks, that's fine with me but no one is making them do it.

<< <i>Why is COPY not on the back of these? >>

Because it does not have all of the markings of the authentic coin, such as "One Dollar". It's only required to have the word "COPY" on it when it's an exact replica including all devices and markings.

I once e-mailed this seller asking why he insists upon being so deceptive in his auctions. I received a two-word reply...F-O.

    Cheers,

My question is, why does ebay permit non-coins to be listed as coins? Aren't they contributing to this problem?

On a mattress stuffed with cash he fleeced from unsuspecting buyers, I'd guess. It's really eBay's problem -- if they can legally keep people from selling Nazi military insignia in the interest of racial sensitivity, they can keep people from selling fakes as real coins in the interest of honesty.

"I'd like to see eBay create a separate category for copies and get this garbage out of the coins listings."

    Now THAT'S a good idea!
