A grade, an opinion and a hello.

Hello folks, first time post here. I got this coin a few months ago, and I am wondering what grade it is, and weather it is or is not what I think it is.

It is an 1805 US Half Cent, with stems on the wreath. But I'm not sure if it is a small or a large 5. So, I will leave that upto you fine folks. I took pictures of the coin about as good as I could get (and from straight on, as I've read you folks don't like angled shots). I'm hoping it's a small 5 (obviouslly...), but I have my doubts (due to the rarity) and think it is a large 5. And if it IS a small 5, is this coin slab-worthy?

Thanks for any help you folks can provide.

Also, thoes pictures are hosted on my computer. If the links suddenly stop working, means my miniHTTP program has crashed. If anyone has some space and wants to host them for free, by all means, I have no objections. image

That.. was quick. Thanks, both of you (and all later welcomes). I havn't collected coins too very long (Hell, I'm only 22), and I don't have many valuable coins at all. If that one is a small 5, that would be my most valuable coin. I'm sure that will change once I get a nice, steady income of money...

Edit: I think it is a Large date after looking at the top of the 5

If ANACS were grading it, I think it would be NET Good-4, Corroded.

While we're on the subject of copper cents, I have 4 others I'd like to get "inspected" by some of you fine folks... that is, if you don't mind... image Thoes are all the large cents I have, actually...
  • Hey, Dominus ..... Welcome !!!!

The half cent looks like the small 5 to me. The large 5 comes extremely close to touching the bust.

Enjoy the old coppers. I know I do image

Hahaha, I would've like to have seen a picture of him. If he does look like Alfred, that's priceless!

Nice... Friend of mine has an 1804 one (i think) that looks to be in VF20 or so condition. Looks damn spiffy.

  • So, no one has anymore grade opinions on my half cent and US large cents?

  • Thanks for the link. I doubt the 1805 half cent is colonial... Colonial coins, to me, are older than either 1793 (chain cent), or older than the Fugio Cent (1787). I scrolled through the page and I don't see anything about US half cents..
  • You're right DD - my mistake. coppercoins.com is a great sight but he hasn't completed it yet. The Lincoln section is great, in case you're interested. He's also a frequent contributor on these boards.

Looks like the large 5 to me with stems. Pretty corroded so I would say it grades around AG-G. I am no expert on these but I thought you might like another opinion. mike image

Here's an assesment of your other coins(keep in mind I am no expert).
      1798, G-5 second hair style
        1926, G-4
1951, VF20 but the little pipe scratched into liberty's mouth will put the value way down
            1956, F-15
