1.The plastic slide in an album which rubs the face of an unc coin making it circ through uncareful handling?
2. crossover coin which can slide into the unc range if one does not look carefully?
3.both!?

Now that term has been around for a very long time. (Longer than some have been born on this forum) However, the term has taken on new meanings over time. During my age of the dinosaurs, it meant a coin that had it's highest surfaces rubbed off by the coin being slid across something like the counter of the bank teller window.
Got quoins?
It still happens today. Many coins that are graded MS-61 and 62 are sliders. That's not to say that these coins are bad buys. Sometimes their superior eye appeal make them much more desirable than a banged up, scratched up ugly "technical Unc."
Another similar term is "slippery". For example, a "slippery 63" coin would mean that it is just barely a 63, but more than likely a 62 coin. If you were to certify the same coin, it would be called "shot 63" until you get the coin back in a 62 holder. jmho

This is the main origin of the term "slider" and was answered correctly by coulport.
Sure the plastic slides in a coin album didn't help matters but the term silder was already in use before the hobby discovered the ugly truth of those plastic slides!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Sliders were the old PCGS softball team, and some people who saw how lousy the Sliders played started calliong coins that didn't quite make it "sliders."
Cute!
In that case, one of my favorite Sci-Fi shows Sliders must have had a hand in all of this. Time/dimension travel?
<< <i>I agree with XpipedreamR, only those burgers from White Castle are true sliders. >>
Wrong!! True sliders can only be found at the mess decks on Navy ships.
