I stoped the poll at 20. It was split right down the middle. 10 said bad chemical bake and 10 said just plain ugly.
Well it is a GSA Morgan. I had to buy it because it was the ugliest one i ever saw. Picked it up at the coin show today. There's a pic of the reverse and it is toned also.
Sometime a coin so ugly catches your eye and this one did it for me.....
Well,
Here's one for ya... Just picked it up. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
What ya think?
She looks like she has a double chin and isn't happy about it..

Almost spilt even on the poll... 5 more votes either way and I'll post what I think it is...

P.S. If my dog looked like that I'd shave his a$$ and make him walk backwards!

That was a good poll. I also voted natural. It is not in an UNC GSA holder but it appears to be UNC. What is your opinion?
My guess is this piece probably came into contact with some acid during its storage time in the government vaults and went bad. Hence this retched toning.
Here's a interesting fault. What if a GSA dollar that is Mint State, but is packaged in a non Mint State GSA holder were submitted to NGC for their "ribbon" grading. Would it get an MS grade? I should think that it would.
Would this coin come back in a body bag? It would have to be a big bag!
I'd have to grade the coin as a 63. There's the normal bagmarks with a bigger hit on the cheek. The coin is a vam 5.
Bill,
Yes your correct. There are many higher grade coins in the Silver Dollar cases that have been overlooked because of any type of toning would have stuck then in that catagory.
Tom
It is unusual.
