4 Hours at the Baltimore show . . .

. . . revealed the following to me:
1) Suddenly, everyone has a Stella in their case. I must have seen a dozen, plus a few in current auctions and several others being hyped for upcoming auctions. All seemingly in MS66** or similar grade. Either this market is sucking them out of the woodwork like tree sap, or someone (possibly a member of this forum) has been quielty hoarding them and is now subtlely introducing them back into the market in the same way that lava subtlely introduces itself out of a volcano.
2) Oddly, unexpectedly and totally inconsistent with past behavior, I had a few dealers actually try to sell me something. Normally at a show I get either the 'indifferent ignorer' or the tepid 'let me know if you want to see something' - I pretty much never get the 'this a great coin, you should buy it' pitch I got today. Not sure what that means, but there you have it.
3) The men's room in the bourse area was out of commission, leaving the women's room plus a unisex rest room not unlike the one on Ally McBeal which the entire cast would use at once and occassionally erupt into an impromptu musical number. For that reason alone, I decided to 'hold it'.
4) I didn't buy anything.
Then I left.

Great post. Your point about Stellas and volcanoes nearly had me laughing aloud, but reading the comment about the unisex with the reference to the Ally McBeal show put me over the edge. I want to go to my next show with you!

And "great" to me means an accurately graded coin, at least solid for the grade, priced within reason, and attractive to the eye.
I'm seeing way too many coin ads and web site offererings with the same old tired coins. Inventory "non-movers" if you will. Many of these I'm sure are sucking life out of dealer's cash flow and ability to make $$. It's this 80% of the market that is keeping a lid on all but the nice and exceptional pieces. The owners of these coins are going to great lengths to move them out.

I found him but since I already knew Dave, I'm not in the running to win the coin.
