Does PCGS place GSA pedigree on their holders of GSA Morgan’s that are not from Carson City?

I just got back my submission from PCGS and found that they did not place the GSA pedigree on the holder of the 1900-O GSA Morgan dollar that I sent them. It was sent in the original GSA package, which was returned with the coin. I even marked on the invoice that it was a GSA and when they take the Morgan out, if they can send the package back with the coin. What should I do? Should I send it back?Does PCGS place GSA pedigree on their holders of GSA Morgan’s that are not from Carson City? It's probably with more with the GSA on the holder if I sell it.

  • They do put GSA on the holder. Contact customer service and they will probably tell you to send it back and they will change the label.

  • Send it back to them...Yes, it has more value if the pedigree is on there.....

Was it a hard pack or soft pack GSA holder?

Why would you take a coin like that out of the GSA holder????

Not that the 1900-O is a rare date, but they are worth a lot more in the original packaging, irregardelss of what PCGS puts on the holder.

The higher the grade, the bigger the premium.

  • It was a soft pack, I thought since I bought on Ebay for $20 with free shipping. Since PCGS graded coins were commanding a higher price on the auctions, I tought that I would send it to them for grading and resell it on Ebay with the rest of the original package. It's not easy to find certified GSA regular Morgan for sale......

  • My friend showed me a regular GSA Morgan graded by PCGS today, it was in a soft pack and he sent it in for grading. So they do place the pedigree on there, they probably made a mistake. Call customer service and send it back...

Coconut, please tell me that you didn't crack out a 1900-O in a GSA hardpack to put it in a PCGS holder.

If it was in a GSA hardpack, it was worth something on the order of $1500.

Hope you got a REALLY high grade on that piece.

Edited to add: I see that you posted it was in a softpack. I feel better.image

  • I spoke to customer service today and found out that PCGS does not place the GSA pedigree on its holders if the GSA is a soft pack. They will only place GSA on the holder from the hard case GSA's. I glad I didn't pay too much for this coin and didn't send the rest of the soft packs for grading. Just more coins to list on Ebay.....
