Are ALL of the new grading services bad? Maybe not.

We have seen an explosion of new grading services over the past couple of years. From my observation, virtually all of these new companies are not worthy of any support, or business. One, however, seems to be doing a credible job. It is called National Numismatic Certification and is based in Birmingham, MI. I have had a chance to examine large numbers of coins graded by this company at a local dealer and have found the coins to be correctly graded in nearly all cases. I recently purchased a 1793 Wreath Cent graded by this company as F-12, Retoned. The coin is correctly graded and described and is much superior to a PCGS F-15 I recently saw on eBay.
The owner of this service is a very experienced dealer. My own purchase was made from a PNG dealer. I've decided to leave the coin in the NNC holder since I am really tired of the slabbing game. This new service just might have a future.
All glory is fleeting.

I had never heard of them either, until I just did a search on eBay. Here is a NNC slab I found:

Kind of hard for me to grade with an angled pic though.

  • I have several of their coins, and havn't seen one that i didn't agree with.... I have sat them sise by side with PCGS, and think they are very comparable, alot better that some of the others....

  • I have several of their graded coins ( bought the coins ) not the slabs and was I impressed>
Their grading was right on,(no, if and's or buts) about it.
No over the top- let it slide - give a few points-but honest grades,
Would I buy a slabbed coin from their grading service again?
    Yes!!

I'm with you on that one Lady!!!!!!image
  • These guys are so far above the other new grading services,an MS 62 ,looks like, appears, eye appeal, like a 62, not a MS60.
    I think,in my opinion,you don't just by reflex ,discount their grades by 2 points like ,I do PCI,NTC.ICG etc,ect.
A fine 15 ,is a fine 15, A VF 30,is a VF 30 (subjectively speaking)of course we all know grading is subjective, based upon our opinions as far as appeal, strike, etc.
    But overall,these guys are good!
