Stacks auction without slabs

How can Stacks continuously come up with auctions that do not have any slabbed coins in them? I just received their last catalogue. Even the rarities are not slabbed. Are they still buying back collections they sold years ago?

stack's knows their market is COIN collectors. so obviously, they will do what it takes to satisfy that market. that includes cracking coins out.

Stack's has been working with very wealthy collectors since the 1930's. They know where the collections are and know how to deal with the very wealthy. There are more collections out there than you may realize. Many of these wealthy collectors never attend shows or auctions and only deal thru a large, very high-end dealer such as Stack's.

Wow! You mean rich, high-profile collectors were able to put together a great set of coins without the reources an ordinary human might find useful? I learn something new every day, that's why I stick around here!

You mean like making a multi-million dollar mistake, calling a real 1913 nickel a fake?

Stacks may be dealing with old collectors and money, but, IMO, their not dealing with smart collectors.

But none of them had pop top State Quarters in their collections!

There are plenty of coins out there in holders that tease and temp the imagination about perhaps being a higher grade.

The phrase "Worth more out of the holder" isn't just a line of B.S. If you take this kind of coin out of the holder and put it in an auction as raw, all it takes is one person to see it as a higher grade to make the crack-out a wise action. And if you get two people who see the coin that way...

    When in doubt, don't.
