If people are hell bent on having Reagan on something, put him on a $500 bill.

<< <i>Removing FDR from the Dime would be outrageous. It is equally outrageous that there was not something done for the Roosevelt centennial in 1983.

They could make a coin for him commemerating the passing of the U.S. debt from billions to trillions.

Miss Liberty should be brought back!
<< <i>Not to worry. The democrats would never allow the bill to pass. They would probably fillibuster like they did on the judges. >>
Well, soon there won't even be enough of them in the senate to do this. I am against this change, but this is certainly not because I don't think Reagan was 1000 times the person that FDR was but I don't think any person deserves to be on our coins.
(I am also unsure why only one person deserves a Holiday. But of course, this was slammed down our throats too, and those that opposed it were called racist. Yep, you are racist if you don't agree to pay people to stay home.)
<< <i>Politics aside, there shouldn't be any presidents on our coins other than our founding father, GW >>
Uhhh... George Washington said no president should appear on a coin, and specifically wouldn't allow himself to appear on one...
<< <i>So many people in this country have little if any historical knowledge. Putting a person on a coin is a least a start to the education of many. Think of all the little school kids that will hear about Reagan in class with a new dime, >>
The problem with this idea can be demonstrated with the existing coins. The vast majority of the public has no idea who he people are on our coins now and they have been around for the entire lifetime of many of the people using them. What makes you think this would change for a Reagan dime?
<< <i>I think it is a little inappropriate to put a live president on a coin, anyhow. >>
No offense to you, but I think it's actually illegal to put any living person on a coin. Maybe the bill that this discussion is based around is meant to take action as soon as Reagan dies. Seems a little creepy, though.
I like the classic idea mentioned earlier, you know, after the state quarters are done, have all the "throwback" designs for each denomination. hehe, Morgan "golden" dollars.
2) Should it be the traditional side profile, or (my opinion) a three-quarter profile (like on most medals)?
3) I'm not the greatest fan of a number of presidents depicted on our coins and currency. JFK was the first president to build and sustain his (mostly contrived) image via TV: he made himself look great while losing Cuba to the Russians, delaying the civil-rights movement, and making a mess of Vietnam. Roosevelt created his own gov't-paid personal propaganda machine, stole everyone's money, tried to undermine the Supreme Court, and allowed Stalin to control half of Europe after WWII...
I want to keep Jackson on the $20 bill, because I'm sure it makes him roll over in his grave. However, I think I'd want to replace Kennedy on the half-dollar before I removed Roosevelt from the dime. Reagan is the best candidate I can think as a replacement.
(Just think of city streets clogged with a hundred thousand horses each generating 15 lbs of manure every day...)
We've had them on coins before, so lets try something new.
The state quarter program has shown to be something that has got people back into collecting.
I say get rid of all presidents live or dead from our circulating coinage. Put them on commemoratives.

Washington and Lincoln had their traditional birthday holiday dates compressed into a single day, but yet MLK has his own specific holiday. Go figure.
<< <i>No offense to you, but I think it's actually illegal to put any living person on a coin. >>
Actually it isn't. It IS illegal to put a living person on the paper currency, but it is perfectly OK to put a living person on a coin. We have had living people on the commemorative coins on I believe at least four occaisions, but never on a regular circulation coin.
I can think of a dozen reasons not to have high capacity magazines, but it's the reasons I haven't thought about that I need them.
I oppose both bills.
why are points such as this constantly wrangled over?? commemorative coins have a purpose. why not direct energy towards using them properly instead of constantly misappropriating circulating coinage to honor a special interests interest?? depictions of Liberty-----the best and most important aspect of America that we can offer the world-----are the most useful on our circulating coin's obverses.

<< <i>Maybe they should put Teddy Kennedy on the dime, or maybe they should come up with a two-cent piece with him on it. We always hear his two cents worth! >>
