Can someone Please Help This Member With Pic!

I am having no luck posting coin pictures. Every time the message tells me that the file is too big. Since when are images from a medium pixel digital camera too big for these boards. Any suggestions on how to transfer my pictures to the boards?

It has to be below 50kb I believe.

Shrink the photo down a bit.

What make them smaller. Photoshop use the save for web option.
  • He's on an Apple.
Can anyone help him with the actual shrinking?

    Thanks,

    Carol

For best results, limit your graphics to 400x400 pixels max with jpeg medium compression. That will almost always fit within the forum's limits. The reason why other people can make them bigger is that they host them on other servers and not here.
  • He doesn't have a place to host it and he does not know how to resize it.
Can someone walk him through it on an Apple and/or do it for him?

E-mail it to me, and I'll resize it for you and upload it to the boards.

I was going to PM my e-mail address, but you don't have PMs enabled.

Contact Bustman. Maybe he can help. I know he uses an Apple PC and does his own coin imaging.

    Carol,

What do I get if I volunteer to host it on my own web server?

Photoshop for Macintosh can do it, of course. Also the utility that captures your photos from the camera probably has a utility to allow you to crop and resize. Usually that is in an Image menu or Edit menu. If you have the full version of Quicktime, you might be able to do it through that. Also, on www.download.com there is a software repository for macs and windows. You can find some shareware and freeware image utilities there: Download.com image editing program directory for Macs

    carol...

in the latest up grades to the web site was there any thought to maybe upgrading the allowances on size limits on jpeg pictures?

say... 100 kb instead of 50?

    thanks, mike
  • There were no upgrades to the forums or sites.
The upgrades were on internal systems only.

At this time we do not have plans on increasing the file allowances.
  • Are you using OSX? If you don't have any photo editing software, you can use the programs included right with OSX. Here's a quick way of doing it.....

    Open two programs.....GRAB and PREVIEW

Open your photo in PREVIEW and use the zoom in and zoom out buttons to make the photo a nice viewable on-screen size for this forum. Next, open GRAB and on the top menu line select CAPTURE and scroll down to SELECTION. When the crop tool appears, crop around your photo on-screen. The photo will pop up in a separate window. Name and Save that photo. (It will default to saving as a tiff file). Go back to PREVIEW and open that file you just saved. With the photo open, go to FILE and scroll down to EXPORT. You then can select jpg from the pulldown menu and save the photo.

This should give you a photo with nice quality and a file size small enough for the forum. Best of Luck!
