Is this a FAKE ? PLEASE LET ME KNOW

It has been a while since I posted on here but I felt I had to bring this to someone’s eye other then mine. I am curious what you experts thin about this coin. I noticed it on ebay. I also noticed that this guy seems to sell all fake items or low-end genuine items. I feel that if this coin is fake that fraud has taken place and think that this should be brought to ebays attention. I am sure the seller believes since he has not actually stated anything in his listing that he is in the clear. I wan to hear what you think. I have tried with no luck to get anything from ebay or the seller. If this coin is fake I am sure this will sour the buyer forever when they get it and see that it is a fake. Another note on his auctions and others. I deal in fine art and notice a lot of fakes in that market as well and they all seem to have private feedback. Please let me know at nosnarbgalleries@aol.com. Thanks Dan at Copper Fish Galleries

It must be fine. It's being offered by a Power Seller, eBay's finest.

  • Bidders kept private so no one can warn them.3 day auction so eBay won't have much time to act.All capital letters.Non-slabbed coins.I feel there is definetly some scamming going on here.
  • Please keep these posts coming. I'm creating a text document that lists all questionable Ebay sellers' IDs. If you already have such a list, PM me and I'll combine and sort them, then distribute via PM to anyone who asks. I've gone through several months of postings already.

If a forum member has been ripped off or had serious difficulty with a seller, on the list he goes. So too with fake items like this auction.

Even from the poor picture, one can tell that this coin is BAD from across the room.

But hey this guy is POWER SELLER. He's really concerned about his customers' welfare.... NOT

It's an 1854-O $20 minted in San Francisco, CA. If it is real, it is unique. image
  • Thanks all for your help. I think that the list should be made making all including Ebay aware of this type of sellers. Thanks again ! Dan

  • A look at his neg/neutral feedback here reveals that this seller is not to be trusted. Several mentioned of counterfit coins in there.

  • It's only worth about half the current bid though. Half of it's gold plating is worn off.
  • Why anyone would willingly place secret bids for big $$$ for a funny looking raw coin from a shady seller with bad feedback is beyond me. Are there any red flags that aren't a-flappin' in the breeze here?

Maybe they're masochists. Maybe they're looking for trouble, and they deserve whatever they get. I don't know.

Am I being too harsh here? Please let me know if I am.

  • The letters F-A-K-E instead of L-I-B-E-R-T-Y across the headband make me sort of suspicious but since he's an ebay powerseller, I'd bid without thinking twice.
  • Seller does not offer any INSURANCE, that should also raise red flags. Why would the buyer bid on $1000.00 coin without insurance?????

Yes, you can be sure it's fake! This is the very same seller I pointed out selling fake confederate notes about a month ago. All auctions are private and you can't let the bidders know they are bidding on fake crapola from this schmuckenheimerimage
  • I looked at many of his current listings......something didn't seem right....maybe the bright white 2x2s with the fresh ballpoint pen. Then I saw that bidders identities hidden. Then I saw the seller's feedback.

That was enough warning for me!

  • I have that same novelty item. It's on a money clip I got years ago.
    Of course it's fake.

All this sellers items are novelties or fakes of some sort. The fake Confederate notes this seller was pitching last month all had bogus serial numbers and matched a list of fake Confederate notes that were novelties passed out in the 50's at filling stations. And you know what? The seller got big money for a fake product!
