    (common coin priced @ $225)
My RedBook says it's worth $200. I'll take it.

First time I try to sell a coin at a coin show( I was 14 years old at the time):

Dealer says "how much do you want for your coin?"

I say "no, how much are you willing to pay for my coin?"

Dealer says "no, it doesn't work that way around here, you tell us how much you want for your coin?"

I responded, " Why do you want to know what I want for the coin?"

Took the coin back and felt miffed that the dealer wanted me to divulge my "secret."

    Learned a little since then.

  • That sample slab is worth 10 times what you are asking.

  • "I'm sorry, what?"

or something like that, something to indicate that I don't know what the shop owner is talking about.
    Bad move.

Years ago I asked a dealer about the coins at another dealers shop across town. After hearing the diatribe about what a crook the other guy was, I quickly realized how stupid I was to have asked about his competition.

Why on earth did I think he'd have anything to say but bad things concerning the "other guy" is beyond me.

Local dealer had 4, Jefferson Coin & Currency sets, from an estate sale. "Gee, 'ya know Bob, that nickel alone, is worth $60 in the Red Book..." He was gonna give 'em to me for $10 a pop. The word "was" is still haunting me.
