Auto Advice please

In April I will be playing in an NFL alumni Golf Tournament. Can you guys give me advice on getting autographs? Should I have cards autographed? If so, can a PSA holder be signed? What other items or ways would be best? The Alumni chapter is South Florida, so I am thinking I may see a lot of Dolphins and Bucs, maybe Marino who knows. Any advice is appreciated.

  • have them sign a card
that way you can get it authenticated
and slabbed from PSA/DNA - PSA combo deal

IF you have them sign the slab
(using a sharpie works fine... see photo below)
it does not look as good
and then you have to send the
whole slab to PSA/DNA and likely pay more
for the sig to get authenticated
(and the sig will not likely survive time
    in that form)

  • I'd bring a football or two and have players sign it.

Is this a charity event where playing entitles you to mix and ask for sigs? If not, then I can tell from my limited experience from Augusta - I was stationed there and everyone hits on the players - celebs come to practice rounds also - if you catch them right - and politely hand them one item, if they are a signer, you're in - guys who walk up with a bunch seem to be rebuffed - something large that they can see from a par 3 distance - well they may try to avoid you. The problem I found with seeking sigs is that EVERYONE is hitting on these guys with stuff to sign. I found when I was with my son, the chances increased immensely.

Yes, this is a charity event. The night before is a pairings party/meet & greet for 2 hours. This is when I thought I would have an opportunity to get sigs. Too much going on the golf course during the tourny I think. I figure after a few drinks, most guys will be willing to fork over the sig.image

  • I don't know how much time you have, but Sports Illustrateds are fantastic signed IMO. If you have a list of who's appearing, you can go here and see if they've ever made the cover. Then you can usually get a copy from dealers who deal in SI's, or on Ebay. I don't know if you have the time or are interested in the effort to secure the magazines but they display very well are a nice store of value.

You could have Marino sign a box of
    Isotoner gloves. image

  • Have them autograph a card, not the slab.
If their HOF'ers have them autograph a cool diecut card or nice looking card, try a game used card, I can't understand why alot of people get crappy looking cards signed. Don't they know you'll get alot more money if the card is very cool looking. when I go to a signing, I have them sign the best looking ones for my collection. And those are the cards that are attractive to me.

Found out today a few names.

    Bob Griese
    Larry Little
    Ray Guy
    Nick Bunocotti

I was told there would be 5 or 6 Hall of Famers at least. Was also told to bring a football, no problem, will be able to get all the auto I want.
How about taking pics Friday night, running them to the one hour photo to get autographed the next day at the tourny?
1 week from Friday and counting.
