1979 OPC BGS 9.5 Gretzky on Ebay

Good afternoon all:

I know it is not a PSA card, but has anyone seen the BGS 9.5 Gretzky on Ebay. The starting bid is a Mere 100k for this beauty. If memory serves me correctly this card was pulled about 20 months ago at a card show from wax and the gentleman went straight to the Beckett booth and got it graded. It sold then for around 45k I believe. Just thought I would point it out. Here is the the link too.Link

  • I'm sorry but $100k? It's not even a 10....or PSA graded. Maybe the guy just wants to show his collection off.
There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness"
  • You'd think he'd include a bigger scan (including the back) for such a once-in-a-lifetime offer ...

    phooey
  • sheet cut. i own one of the nicest (nicely cut) OPC's on the planet, a Dryden PSA 9, and it would have no chance of a 10 if i resubmitted it 50 times.

A lot of history with this card. Allegedly it was pulled from a pack purchased at the National from Dave and Adam's Card World who than auctioned it on ebay? Apparently it was never verified that the card pulled from the pack was the exact card that went to Beckett grading. Also, it is graded by BGS and not BVG which was in place at the time of grading this card.
Anyway, interesting to see what will happen.
  • If it was pulled from a pack, why not send it to PSA? That would get rid of the "uncut sheet" rumors.

Although the centering looks out of the boundaries of a PSA 10.

I wonder what a true PSA 10 would sell for.

Speaking of interesting, Albie, I was wondering if Mr. Owen has lost his mind. Looks high end for the grade, but $177 for a PSA 7 '53 Parkie common?!? I'm glad I'm close to completing this set, because prices have just been getting crazy lately.

The card was opened from a pack at Dave & Adams table and was submitted the next day to Beckett (hence it was not opened and IMMEDIATELY given to Beckett). There is no conclusive evidence that the card pulled from the pack was the same card that made its way to Beckett. I spoke with Adam on the phone regarding this and he even mentioned that he was not 100% sure it was the same card (i.e. he woudl not stake his reputation on it). The story goes that the guy was so impressed with the card that he wanted Beckett to grade it using BGS standards rather than BVG standards....

It originally sold on eBay for approx $17k. Dave and Adams auctioned off the card for the original owner.

A PSA 10 version of this card was graded at the same National as the BGS 9.5. There was mention made of the slight rough cut to enhance the cards credibility of coming from a pack.

Steve - Thanks for pointing that auction out to me. I will drop you a PM.
