  • << <i>Ok, folks, be honest - which would you rather hear from someone whose coin knowledge and opinion you respected?

    1) Your coin is amazing looking but it wont upgrade.

    2) Your coin is butt ugly but I think it will upgrade.

Neither of the above because they wouldn't mean squat to me.

    I would prefer:

    3) Nice coin. Wanna sell it?

(Of course...the answer is no. image)

I would rather have a set of "amazing" coins than an ugly set a grade higher. It is easy to shun ugly coins. The hard part is knowing what kind of premium is sensible to pay for the nice coins.

"Amazing looking but won't upgrade" could still be golden words for a coin market mercenary. Take monster toned coins for example. They often sell for more than the next grade up.

Even as a seller, I would probably rather hear "amazing but won't upgrade"so long as I did not buy the coin to flip as a crack-out at a premium higher than it could sell for as an "amazing" specimen in its current grade. In fact, it probably would be easier to sell the "amazing' coin than an ugly coin a grade up, which might be relegated to the blue sheet world at a price lower than the "amazing" lower grade coin would bring. Depends of course on the price spread between grades.

I would rather here someone state "your coin is amazing" although correctly graded.
  • I would have to go with #1. My coin is amazing. Upgrading aside, If I like it, that's all that should matter.

However, I'd hate to hear "Your coin is amazingly butt ugly". We might have to throw down at that point!

#1 without a doubt. I don't really care about the absolute grade of a coin, but I like to collect coins that have great eye appeal and are knockouts!!
