Time for another LordM giveaway? (0john0 wins- guessed 129 on how many eBay auctions I'd put up, and

How about a pretty 1999 bimetallic French 2-Euro piece? It has nice luster not visible in the scan.

image

To enter, guess how many auctions I will be putting up on eBay in this next grouping, which will be my largest offering yet.

Hint: my previous biggest eBay wave was around 40 pieces at one time. I am busily scanning dozens of pictures for the new wave, and unlike my usual past practice of dribbling out a piece or two at a time, I am not going to list anything until it is ALL imaged and ready to go. I may do ten-day auctions on all of it and schedule a Thursday or Friday start, so they will run through two weekends. Everything will start at one cent with no reserve, and there will be some nicer coins. Ancient, medieval, copper, silver, gold, you name it. A little bit of everything. Most coins will be in the $2-10 value range but there will be a Victorian gold sovereign and some nice ancient silver, among other things. Maybe I will do another giveaway when the auctions go up, to promote them.

To win the Deux Euro, just make your guess on how many auctions will be in the "Biggest Ever LordM eBay Extravaganza". Winner (the one with the closest guess) will be announced after all the auctions are running. Not even I know how many coins are in the box I am pulling them out of.

Hint #2: it is an empty aluminum foil box. I found by accident that an empty 12" Reynolds Wrap box is just the right dimensions to hold a long row of coins in 2 X 2's and flips (longer than the Whitman boxes I have for that purpose). The tinfoil box is pretty much full. Now all you have to do is guess how many flips and 2X2's (plus one super-thick 1700's Russian 5-kopeck) a Reynolds Wrap box will hold...

Edit: sweetened the pot. Winner will get the French coin PLUS mystery bonus. image

Darn, I remember seeing the box in Orlando too. He really does keep them in a Reynolds Wrap box .

<< <i>Will there be any Chinese or Indian stuff? >>

Yes, there is some Chinese stuff. In fact, if you'll recall the coins I sold you that I had to refund your money on when they went missing in action- well, there is one more of those that'll be in the auctions. Some other Chinese, too. Nothing earthshaking, but like I said, most of this stuff is in the $2-10 range. India? Yes, but only one or two.

HG: PS- since I feel bad you didn't get the Chinese coins you bought in my dollar sale, I'll throw you a bone. Edit your guess on how many are in the box. It's way low. I'm barely halfway through imaging everything, and I've already done a lot more than that.

OK, OK, for all those of you whining about the hard guesswork and suffering from mental strain, I'll say this: I will sweeten the pot with mystery coin(s), so you get more than just some piddly modern French coin if you win.

You'll get a piddly modern French coin and some other piddly (but interesting!) item or items. image

mystery coins... i.e. adding a churchill or twoimage.

Nope. Don't have any of those.

The mystery coins are a mystery to me, too, at this particular moment. Who knows what will be still lying around here when I am done imaging all the stuff in the tinfoil box!

Might be Liteside silver, like a Walker half or two, if nothing Dark presents itself. I have a roll of Walkers lyin' around somewhere in the clutter. Other Liteside coins, too. But there are gazillions of Darkside coins not in the tinfoil box, yet to be sorted. Most of those are probably destined for my cheap bulk bins at the mall, though.

Guessing 101, as in Dalmations. Maybe you'll include a coin from Dalmatia?

Are these guesses of how many auctions he's putting up or how old he is?

If my age was the same as the number of auctions I hope to be putting up soon, I would be probably be dead by now. If it were the same as the number of auctions I've already imaged, I'd be listening to Big Band music, driving a Cadillac (way below the speed limit), wearing loud checkered pants, white socks, and sandals, and reminiscing about Benny Goodman or Tokyo Rose. I would have personal memories of watching the coronation on television, and the one before that on newsreels.

    THE MAGIC NUMBER IS 131.

I suppose this makes 0john0 the winner, with his guess of 129.

Spoon and farthing tied for second place, both being 4 off (one was too high, the other too low).

Congratulations, John, and how lucky you bought a coin from me recently- I can reopen the mailer and throw in your giveaway loot! (There was already a freebie silver Brit Indian coin of Eddie the 7th in there, but I will add some more goodies.) image
