BTW, I've read the comments here and recall similar comments made in other posts over the last few months in regard to how others that don't have seemingly unlimited resources to buy coins can participate in, and further enjoy the registry. I have a few ideas I am working on, so far relatively simple ideas, which I will put forth in a question in the Q&A forum this week. Nothing earth shattering or secret by any means, I just need a bit more time to think the ideas through.
In the end, I hope more people can particiapte and have fun.
<< <i>The non-FBL Frankies have often been over looked, many fine GEMs can be found....

Very true as the HepKitty has spoken some fine words of wisdom!
There are also gems in all of the denominations that have designations. I have a few Roosie MS68's that do not have FB's and they are downright beautiful!!
Of course you should be able to enter FBL and non-FBL. But finally a 65 FBL is credited lower than a 66 non FBL. And, that's how it should be since a 66 should be better than a 65 regardless of the extra designation. Or else why is it a 66?
In time this registry will be the main competition registry for CS Franklins.
Don't think that you won't need mega bucks to compete for the top slots. The creation of this registry might well increase the premiums of the very best, highest graded non-FBLs.
BTW, if anyone has some nice 65 or 66 non-FBLs, that you want to trade for 64FBLs, please let me know.

I suspect the other one will still be the main event, and except for the very top numerical grade sets, assenbling an FBL set will continue to be relatively expensive. That does not mean, however, that this new catagory is not important or a distant cousin. The new set is based on a bit different set of criteria, and to some perhaps a more important set of criteria. The good news is that it allows more chooses on how to collect such series, and still try to obtain the highest ranking possible, for those that are into that aspect. And for those that just like to collect a set based on thier own criteria, they can enter their sets in both catagories and let the chips fall where they may.

No matter how you slice it or dice it, when you are ranking the top sets, the ones with the most $$$$$ are most likely to end up with the top sets. Having said that, as I mentioned earlier, I have a few ideas on how others with less resources, but a desire to share in the registry fun, and I'll post them in the next day or so after I think them through a bit more.
In less than 48 hours after announcing the trial test of non-strike bonus point Registry categories, there were nine sets listed in the Franklin series and five in the Roosevelts.
That's a good start, but hopefully we'll get many more -- enough to convince PCGS there are plenty of collectors who appreciate grade level as much as degree of strike, and that the test should be made permanent and be expanded into other coin series as well.
This is absolutely the best thing to happen to the Franklin series in a long time. I am elated!
Glad to see David Hall (Blessed Be His Name) really does listen to the little guys. Thanks HRH!, and thanks to Foodude and any others that pushed for this to happen.

Are any of the Mercateers interested in this concept? I have been quiet as my bias is clear. I have a 0% FB registry set. Just curious what the other shallow pockets Merc collectors think.

Not to hijack the thread (I did register my Franklins), but I think it would be interesting to see the results of a Merc registry where FB's were not given bonus points. As with the Franklins, sometimes the difference between achieving the designation and not quite making it are extremely minute. It would certainly change the rankings of those of us who don't desire or have the means to acquire FB in all dates, but those who have 100% FB sets would probably be opposed to it. It would make coins like my 1918-D & S and 1919-D & S Mercs look good. If the Franklin and Roosie non-designated sets are successful, I can see the concept spreading to the Jeffersons, Standing Liberties, and Mercs. However, I doubt that it would extend to the color of Lincolns or Indian cents, because the color is such a huge factor in the overall appearance of those coins.
When you move your 90% complete set from the FBL registry to the NFBL registry, you will be eligible for 3 free gradings, AND your set may go up considerably in the rankings. My set went from about the 30th ranked fFBL set to the #3 NFBL set. What a great feeling of satisfaction!

Might we see SLQs, Roosies, Mercs, etc. without designations? How about copper coin sets ranked solely on grade, without consideration for color?

My brown matte proof Lincolns like that idea
