A little slow here tonight , so I thought of posting some new arrivals (or not so new-less than 15 days old anyway):
British West Africa 1952H 1d
A world classic
Belgian Congo 1887 5 centimes
All coins come from the same seller who really has an eye for common coins in truly exceptional condition. He used to have a deal with ICG ,(cheap slabbing fees) and that's why all three coins reside in MS65 holders (red for the penny, red brown for the 5 centimes) . I intend to keep them this way, after all ICG is the best looking and safest holder of the market.
I'll post a few new 1901 coins later (among which a colourfull florin and the Terner half-sovereign).

I really like that french walker.
I would have to agree with that statement

BTW, do you know why almost all of West African colonial coins had on them "Star of David" with a hole in it??! I'm curious about it.
Excellent additions to any collection.
We ARE watching you.
The Jewish world lobby maybe? Pushing to get things their way?
(just kidding, OK? )

So, if anybody knows the reason I'm still curious about it
Cameroon

Togoland
Gambia
Ghana
& Nigeria.

Dimitri, sorry for hijacking of your thread, I really wanted to ask that question here for a long time!
And ... you didn't need to edit your first reply-- I know that you just kidding

I won a big ol 10 centime a while back from someone in Spain but it never came.. I gotta find another
My wantlist & references
Seriously, it was so the natives could carry them on a string tied together. I've seen such coins on strings on display in the British Museum. Apparantly they'd carry up to hundreds at a time on a string, and draped around their neck.
"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." -Luke 11:9
"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might." -Deut. 6:4-5
"For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; He will save us." -Isaiah 33:22
But I'm still curious about the reason for usual star? Anybody knows? May be because of 5 colonies?

And may be you are right , Mike, most of symbols you can meet in very unexpected places-- "Soviet" star is good example of that!
is that you end up being governed by inferiors. – Plato

Spoon, you should be happy to know that I just picked up a denomination set of 1887 and 1888 coppers from the Belgian Congo that will be available soon.
