New Slab - Modern Coin Grading Company

I guess they grade Moderns (at least it's not a 70DCAM)

  • I remember they were around in 2001 when these Buff commems came out. i was an intern at the ANA and they had the intercept shield inside their slabs. We contatced ICG who had the patent at that time and the contract to be the only slabbing company to have it inside their slab and I think they were shut down. The only slab I have seen was with the Buff commem inside.

  • Cameron, if you want to see one that doesn't have a buffalo dollar in it, look in the slab book. MCGC 1 in the book contains a Chinese 5 yuan piece. Apparently MCGC was only around from late 2000 to early 2001. They stopped updating their wbsite in Mach 2001 and now the domain name is up for sale.

I'm still looking for an example of MCGC 2, one with the intercept shield insert. I don't think the Intercet shield insert was the reason MCGC folded. ICG may have had an exclusive contract with Intercept Shield for them supplying insets but if MCGC acquired the inserts from other sources and then used them in their inserts Intercept would not be able to stop them from doing so. The contract with ICg would only prevent Intercept from supplying their product to another grading service directly.
