OT - Yankee (or not) test

Yankee or Dixie?

I came up '43% (Yankee). There are traces of Yankee in you'. Geez! I've lived mostly in VA but FL and MI have rubbed off on me.

  • 44% "trace of Yankee". The interesting thing is, the only area-specific responses I made indicated midwest and Pennsylvania area, so I guess my language patterns developed during my first 11 years in Ohio, and haven't changed all that much in my 60 years of calling California home.image

41% yankee. Seeing that I come from a state that wasn't a state until after the civil war, it's hard to determine what that means.

I tried it again answering "I don't know" when listed to see if that would nudge up my score but it didn't really work image

    37% Yankee (and proud).

There were many choices where I might use different pronounciations in different contexts. Like "route." For me, and interstate is a "root" but state and county roads tend be "rowts." A kid who delivers papers has a paper "rowt."

I mostly grew up in the northeast so I was surprised that I use many words from the Pennsylvania, Ohio, Great Lakes region. Where did that come from.

With the sandwich question, I have used grinder, sub, and hero interchangably. I never used hoagie but I have known plenty of people who do.

I agree with Sumnom that there are different pronunciations and words available to choose from, especially if you've traveled around a bit. I don't think the test is conclusive or accurate, but it says it's only entertainment.
