don't take this wrong, it's certainly a nice coin, but to me, those look a lot like ToneCoin colors image

Keets, I would think the tab toning would be caused by something like my dime book here. I think it is an awesome looking coin but I do deeply question whether its real? Tab toning on a proof 1960 nickel seems very out of place to me. mike

............and me too, especially on the reverse. but i've seen stranger things.

that looks like one of those old "Christmas Club" type of coin holders from back in the 50's and 60's when a savings account actually gained interest!!image last year i was at the local shop and someone sold a collection that had about three of those things with Mercs, although they were just the press-ins with no tab.

signs of a bygone era, fer sure.

Maybe the "water" hasn't reached high tide yet? It is kinda strange for an "island" amid all that toning. Kinda like a torch only heated the sides for effect and the central area left unheated.

Just made me think of something.

If doing AT, how do the colors compare to the heat induced? Is the obverse "target" toned from the center out or edge-wise in? If white is the hottest, then red, orange, blue, green to follow, does this fit the pattern of AT? If someone with a torch strafed the reverse back and forth thru the center, would the results look like the reverse?
Everything starts and everything stops at precisely the right time for precisely the right reason.

Beautiful Jeff! I have a 1940 proof that has similar toning (identical pattern on the reverse. It'd be curious to know what that is from.
