Crossover question...

I wonder if PCGS takes into consideration the age of the slab that is being crossed over when the coin is blast white. Take for instance if you submitted a 1928-s (very hard to find blast) Peace dollar to cross at any grade and the "generation" of the other slab was at least 4 years old..... if the coin was indeed "dipped" it would have started to re-tone.... right? iF PCGS took this into consideration, I believe it would have a chance to get into their holder.....
Now take that same coin... crack it... and watch it come back BB....... I think it's best "sometimes" to cross with the coin in the holder..... um... maybe......

I had an 1854 with arrows half dollar in an NGC MS-64 holder. The coin had been dipped white, but it was stable, had only the most minor of marks, not spots, not rub, nice luster and good eye appeal. The coin was really solid for the grade. Unlike a lot of so-called Mint State seated coins that I see, it had NO RUB on Ms. Liberty's thigh.
I could have sold the coin to a well-known, well respected dealer if it would crossover to PCGS. The dealer thought so much of the coin that HE paid $100 to PCGS to see if it would cross at the show. They took his money, looked at it for a couple seconds and handed it back. His comment was, "I wonder what they want for an MS-64?"
That's the trouble with these people. You can't talk to them. You can't reason with them. You can't have a dialog with him. That's why a lot of dealers don't like doing direct business with PCGS. If a company treats you like you are stupid and ignorant, you are going to develop a lot of resentment toward that company.
23 came back the same grade, 4 a lower grade and 3 a higher grade.
But I never submit at shows.
You most likely have a good eye for crosses.... do you thin pCGS taken into consideration the above.... Do YOU when you buy a coin you will cross....?
Out of the 30 coins I only sent 3 as cross at same grade or higher only.
The rest were sent cross at any grade.
Personally I think most of the graders at pcgs do look at the coin on crossovers and give them a fair shake or I have lucky to get the same grader who does everytime.
I did see a nice looking for the grade commemrative on eBay in older ngc holder and won it at a good price and it did upgrade when I crossed it but I would have been happy if it came back the same grade.
All I can say is do your homework before you buy and try to find a coin you like already in the holder you want it makes life easier.
If you can't find what you want already in the holder you want then compare the one you are considering to a nice for the grade one already in the holder you want.
After thinking about it a little I wonder if a shows the graders have more of a customer bias than a slab bias and think people are looking to use pcgs to make a fast buck.
