Friday update - - - Having fun in Long Beach

Today was setup. I was very tired after driving 15 hours straight to get to the show so my brain isn't functioning fully but so far the show seems to be brisk. Dealers are skurring to find new material, and there is very little out there. Nice coins are getting tough to find. Opens to public tomorrow and everybody is anticipating a very busy show. We hope to see board members at the show so please stop by and say hi (tables 758-760).

I agree - was at show yesterday (weds) and was quite busy - more so than I've seen in past years! Looks like the show is going to roar!

  • Friday update - business was very good. We did 90% retail (which is much a higher percentage than normal) I think because dealers were too busy at their tables to shop from other dealers. Collectors are looking for the key dates to finish their sets, common dates dates are not selling like they were a year or two ago. Key dates are selling for MUCH over sheet because they are getting very harder and harder to find. 1894 dollars and 1893 S dollars are nearly impossible to find. Attractive coins for the grade and nice toned coins are selling like crazy for whole retail. One thing that is very surprising is that very little material is being brought in for sale - normally we are offered a lot of material across the table but so far we have seen very little and what little we have seen often has problems and is picked over. Overall the show has been very good but if you see a coin you want do not pass it up because if you do chances are it won't be there tomorrow if you change your mind.

On a personal note, I submitted some SMS halves a while ago, three 1965 SMS halves to NGC and picked them up today, 2 made cameo and one a Deep cameo. Put them in the case and the deep cameo lasted 3 hours - that's how quick nice coins are lasting.
