Will my buffalo be graded by PCGS or BB.

I have an AU 58 1913 s TII that has a few tiny scratches around the horn from having some crud scrapped away. It's a shame but the coin is nice otherwise. Nice strike and lots of luster. Would PCGS grade a coin with such minor damage from improper cleaning? You can only see the scratches under magnification.

  • It's not considered cleaning, but "tooling" since a utensil was used to scrape away the crud leaving damage to the coin. It will get a bodybag.

    did you do it yourself?

if you can not see it without magnification, there is a good chance it will go through
since PCGS graders rarely use magification according to homerunhall

if not obvious, they will be looking for AU or MS

even if seen now, maybe you could put it in something or store it away so it will get some toning that may cover up the 'small scratch' and a few years down the road could get in slab

is it important to you to have it in a slab?
  • Send it in and hold your breath. It would look great in a slab with AU58 on it!! image

I've seen many slightly "scrapped" coins in slabs. Let's see a scan before we castigate this coin.
