Special offer from Littleton- save 74% !!!

Just got an insert ad with my last Mastercard bill.
Littleton is offering three Franklins for $9.95 !
Of course they fail to mention the condition.
They do say they'll never be minted again ! duh !!!
They do say they're 90% silver ! duh !
They also say they're over 40 years old ! duh !

Sounds like Littleton is trying to get rid of some junk coins
at the expense of the un-initiated.
I didn't know much about Littleton before. Now I know all
I need to know !

If anyone buys these, please let me know what you got.
I'd like to know if I was too cynical to grab a real deal !

Littleton is a function of satan and David Sundman is a very powerful demon. They use unethical practices and are a severe detrement to the hobby. I hope they both rot in hell. They are responsible for turning thousands of people away from the hobby by drawing them in to garbage approval services , particularly they target young men's magazines ,knowing that they will not understand the fine print and they also charge prices that would make coinvault proud. May they both rot in hell. I can't tell you how many young men that I have met at coin club meetings that bring in crap that they paid over 500% over retail and you can see the dissapointed look on their face when they are told that their VG Franklin is only worth $1.50 or close to melt. The same can be said for the elderly widow who comes in to a coin shop that my friend owns with receipts from Littleton and nearly has a heartattack when he offers her full graysheet bid.

Littleton Coin Company-the scourge of the Numimatic community. Now dig this...a couple years ago David Sundman was presented the President's Award from the ANA for promoting the hobby. What's wrong with this picture?image Sure reeks of payoff and fattening one's bankroll with some under the table money. I became very disgusted with the ANA after that escapade and damn near drug up from the organization. Stinks all to be damn!image
  • Hey, I got the same thing on my statement. Shipping is free! Last year they sent out a mailing for Silver Eagles.
  • My collection started with Coast to Coast coins.
Didn't know squat about grading then.
Their coins weren't graded because they were so
    cleaned they'd be bodybagged.
Cost to Coast recently was expelled from ANA and
I suspect others ,such as Littleton, will also get lose
    their memberships in the future.

.What goes around, comes around .

Littleton had a big add in the classifieds here looking for help. Moslty office types buyers, marketing and computer graphic artisits. I've only bought one thing from them and that was safety flips. Now, I can find them much cheaper else where. I don't like Littleton coins. The town is nice about 3 hours from my part of NH, but I will not buy coins from them. I go here for supplies now:

Read the fine print. Usually they will send others with the coins in the offer with an invoice. You will have to pay to send them back.

I will say that what littleton sells is accurately graded and no junk. However, there pricing is out of sight.
  • The Sundmans are decent, honest people.

What decent honest person sends the unsuspecting-the numismatically ignorant, VG caliber coins for the price of Uncs? They start you off with a small bag of trinkets that you'll keep because it's not worth it to send them back-so you keep them! From there...you are in their web. I had laid off from coin collecting for several years and one day, on ,my credit card statement's envelope was an introductory offer for Silver Eagles. Naturally, I bought several ....and then the coins on approval came-and..I bit! I bought a little of this and a little of that until one day they suggested I join the ANA. THEY SPONSORED ME!! My very first purchase from the ANA was a Red Book, a Blue Book. a jeweler's tray and a 5X. When I saw how grossly overcharged I had been, for trinkets, I came unglued. The end of the story is this...They sent me a large box -postage paid and I returned every damn coin for a complete refund...because I ratted them out to the ANA about being unethical/guilty of "conduct unbecoing that of a member etc" IT WAS AFTER all of this that they were presented the President's Award for promoting the hobby! I was so disgusted I wanted to sit right there! Know what I mean...like I needed to sit real bad!imageimage
  • I've said it before, but it's worth repeating- nothing illegal or immoral about charging a high price, even one that is 1,000% over book value, as long as the item is described honestly and completly. An item's worth is only what someone is willing to pay for it- if I chose to pay $10 for a coin that YOU would only pay $2 then it's my choice- and the coin is worth more to me than it is to you.

I have bought from Littleton, I no longer do but I don't fault them, nobody HAS to buy anything from them.

He's right. Their coins are honestly described, they aren't deceiving anyone. It's not different than any other marketing or advertising. The prices are horrendously high, but thats the price you pay for convinience and lack of knowing better. They have done a TON to promote the hobby tool. They've managed to reach people that might otherwise have never heard of numismatics, and I'm sure many people with big important expensive collections might have had a start as a little kid with littleton. PS, to their credit, their sales literature often has at least snippets of actual information instead of just hype about investment.

Promotion or not, they are sheisters and a detriment to the hobby.
We are better off without them, even if it meant an overall lower demand in the market. There are others like them in the body of Coin World magazine.

I agree with what PutTogether and FatMan said.

Their markup is absurd and perhaps deserving of some ridicule, but everything else about them seems sound, and their product quality is fine. There are far worse shysters out there. We all know there is no shortage of overpriced coins on the market, and very few of the slick operators who sell them take their time to present factual information with them. You can find overpriced AND misdescribed coins without looking too hard. At least Littleton has SOME standards to go with their lofty prices.

Ya know, when I used to go round and round with em, they sure used the word service a lot! I could never quite grasp what "service" that is. Prostitutes provide a service too , ya know! Russ-where did you get all that?image "Et tu , Brute"?
  • Wouldn't a savings of 74% on three 50-cent pieces be a price of about 20 cents? image

  • << <i>Prostitutes provide a service too , ya know! >>

You have something against prostitutes? I agree they do provide a services and it should be legalized and regulated.

If you're interested in prostitution, you should move to the Netherlands. I for one, am glad that this nation still retains some residue of a moral compass and targets these disease spreading vermin who corrupt our Republic.
