Way, way OT: Just had a great cup of tea...

...and I feel great!! There's almost nothing like a good, hot cup of fresh Ceylon tea, sweetened with sugar and served with milk/cream. Wow! What a great beverage. Especially after coming in from the cold.

Sugar? White death, my lad!! I wish I had a certain bit of info regarding white sugar (molasses is OK), and the relationship to cancer found in Black men in America around 1900 (published in a book somewhere - need to check the web).

Anyway, Black men in America had virtually no incidence of death by cancer prior to WWI. As they began to be heavily inducted into the military and got a taste of "refined" foods with white sugar and flour, they slowly ramped upwards until the 1960s when there was scarcely any variance in the cancer rates as compared to the Caucasians who had been eating the processed foods much longer. Is the causal effect as simple as this? Probably not, but it's certainly "food" for thought.

If you must sweeten, do it with the purest food in God's creation, honey! It doesn't spoil, and it's made by industrious, freedom-loving creatures. As to cream; be sure it's pure clotted, heavy cream!! Ummm, ummm good! image Cow's are good! As long as they're eating organic grains and grass, and not steroids.

That is all!! Now, have another cup!

IMHO, anything but the straight taste from tea ruins the flavor, though those chai concoctions from the coffee places aren't bad. Every morning starts with some sort of tea, especially now that the Mall of America here in the Twin Cities has a tea shop with such a tea selection it boggles the mind. I knew of black and green teas, but never knew until recently hitting that shop about white tea & red teas.

Yes, sugar isn't best for a body. It's a weakness of mine, and I have cut back on sugar in a cup of tea by about 30% from 3-4 months ago. I've tried honey but it simply doesn't taste as good. Perhaps I should just drop tea altogether?

I got a beautiful Ceylon coin recently, does that count? It's a 1901 1/4 cent- got it for Victoria's Victorian 1901 set. It's a rainbowey-toned UNC. None of the awesome iridescent colors showed in the seller's rather small and poor scan, so I was very pleasantly surprised.

As to Ceylon tea, we serve a good bit of it at work, but I can't recall ever trying it. I'm not big on hot beverages, but when I do drink hot tea, I'm an Earl Grey man.

Thinking thoughts like that is what kept me from eating eggs for a couple years--when I was in high school I had a pet chicken of all things (leftover from a science class), and she layed a large beautiful egg every day. All I could think about was 'ovulation', so every few days one of the neighbors got a present.

    And milk...cows lactating...

meLord, I suppose a nice Ceylon coin would be a good substitute!image I believe Earl Grey is Ceylon tea with some extra oil added for flavoring. What brand tea do you serve? I like this brand called Jones and it's very high quality and fresh. Of course, there are probably better teas but I'm a bit lazy and when I found this tea brand and liked it, I stuck with it.

Mike, you should be able to get some great tea whenever you visit your brother in England, right? As for the honey, I really think that some of the members should try a few of our local products. It's really delicious and more sweetening than sugar. Speaking of which, I've recently met a 75 year old guy who adds white sugar to all his foods, from pasta to soups ! He's been doing it for as long as he can remember he said.image

Dimitri, I've never tried any Greek honey. Sounds like something I'll have to give a fair shake before I claim I don't like honey. Next time I'm in Englad I can try to find some good tea. On the other hand, Poles love tea and I see a huge selection here. Thanks for your tips!

All this tea drinking makes me feel like a traitor!! image It's like I don't remember the Boston Tea Party. image But I do love good tea.

I'm a honey in my tea type of person. When I'm in Europe I prefer unrefined sugar in my coffee. US coffee is too weak to need any additives.

Worth a read . . . does sugar really feed cancer?

    Various sweeteners

Found these searching for; "white sugar""cancer"

Now! Have a good day!! image

.....also, I'm no 'sugar saint', but maybe I'll cut WAY back.......good way to lose a pound or two also. image
  • I also feel great, Mike, reading that thread and others today, (and that especially image) but after that I found my tea COLD image

And it looks like, that next time I should start with a cup of tea, when it is still hot, and only after that, continue with message boards!image

Does Greece ship any good ouzo to the States, or do they keep it 'local'? image

Mac, thanks for those links. I've now decided to make a concerted effort to be and eat healthier: as little sugar as possible, avoid refined foods, eat plenty of vegetables, fruit and organic whole grains, and get more exercise.
