The first one was excellent. I wonder if Scott Travers edited this one. I also wonder how the content has changed. I could use a new copy anyway.

HRH recently mentioned in a Q&A or other post that the 2nd edition was coming out in 2004. He did not say when. If this is anything like the first one, which I assume it it is, it is a must have for learning to grade, as well as to gain insights in what PCGS is looking at/for when they grade coins.

How can it have a list price of $20?

The first edition had a list price of $30 and it was published in 1997.

Anyone have any details on the second edition? Is it not printed on glossy paper? Is it missing any color pictures?

This, above all else, will drive sales of the book. So I went ahead and preordered mine for precisely this reason.

I've pre-ordered mine. The first book was excellent. I'm hoping that the next one will be as nice or nicer.

Have the grading standards at PCGS changed that much that it warrants a new book? image

They probably have added some counterfeit detection diagnostics

They probably made some nice color pictures - took out a questionable buffalo nickel picture -

I wonder if they have any pictures of PR70DCAM pennies that went bad in their holder?

Low list price is probably so they can lower their customer service costs with people calling to complain because they have a difficult time grading (the submitter that is)

"How can it have a list price of $20? The first edition had a list price of $30 and it was published in 1997."

The $30 edition had a coupon for one free submission to PCGS. Perhaps the second edition omits the coupon.

The first one was very good, but I can't imagine what they would possibly add to this one.

I wonder how this 2nd edition can be sold for only $14 if it is as good as the original. My guess is that the paper and pictures will NOT be glossy and as detailed. I hope I am wrong. I will probably buy the book in any case because it is sure to have interesting updated information from PCGS, but I am a firm believer in the fact that you get what you pay for and this low price concerns me. Should I take the fact that the link is to Amazon.com that PCGS isn't going to offer it????

Mine didn't, unless I'm missing it. Where is/was it in the book?

Got it. The pics are largely black and white altho there is a glossy section inside with some color. Reading it this weekend. Seems good so far.
