Does anybody have any information on this coin/medal?

I think I have asked this before, but I don't believe anybody knew exactly what it was. Any information would be helpful.

Unfortunately, I have little information resources on British medals, which is an extensive collecting area in of itself. There were lots of commemorative medals produced to commemorate the event. I've never seen one like it before, but it's certainly a hefty table medal!!

Wierd how the same people replied to this thread as the last one (sort of in the same order too)... lol.

theboz11... I have a good idea of what the medal is. I'm just hoping (most likely in vain) that one of the british experts on the forums can dig up a mintage and approximate value or anything else.

Askari... Hefty indeed... I used to think 19th century British and Russian coppers were big... this thing blows them all (then again, I don't collect medals... I guess are typically a lot bigger than coins).

Your average medal is going to be about 2 - 2.5 in. in diameter (and normally thicker than a coin, too, because of the high relief). Not many are 3 in. or more. Did you get a hernia lifting that for the first time? image

Afraid my expertise doesn't extend into medals. I can only give you the layman's comment about what a nice medal it is!

Welcome back, Jarrett. You've been Yeti a while, eh?

Hmm. I see Jester passed a milestone while I was Yeti, myself...

Yeah... my first semester of college kind of distracted me from collecting for a good 4 months.
