I sold eight that had graded PR64 back when I decided to stop submitting every friggin' one I got and only submit PR65 or better. I've also sold a couple dozen raw dogs, but I also decided to start keeping those. Besides The Stash, I have five in for grading right now, and 51 raw. Also have three more on the way. Of the raw coins, most are dogs and will stay raw.

Marty has actually handled more than I have, but he sells them all.

Wouldn't be an SMS. The variety exists only in the 1964 proof coins.

Well, considering that pile is at least 75 % Kennedies and two cent pieces ...

Wow! And I thought three was overkill for my collection. I still have one in the proof set package and an NCG PR 68 W (no CAM). I sold off my NGC PR 67 W to Marty on eBay a year and a half ago for my cost -- still less than it would have cost to get it into a PCGS slab.

Russ: How long before you will let us know relative values in the various grades, CAM, DCAM, or no CAM between the major grading services? I bet you have this knowledge already.

I only track realized prices for PCGS and NGC graded coins. I track all of them for the PCGS graded material, and just the more difficult ones for NGC graded. The other services aren't even worth paying any attention to.

As far as relative values go, some are pretty easy because I have many sales in the database. For example, I can say with relative certainty, that the market value of a PR67 is about $40 because I have over 100 sales tracked.

Current realized prices on these are down substantially from two years ago, but have been trending upward over the past couple months. For example, the last five sales of the coin in 67CAM averaged $290 compared to a 2003 average of less than $170. Recent trends may just be a temporary rise, though, that is based on the fact that it was the 40th anniversary of his death a couple months ago.

Great thread Russ. I never thought much about the varieties in JFK's. I'm going to look thru a bunch of 1964 proof sets I bought directly from the mint early in 1964 (I told you I was old), and check them for the Accented Hair variety.

No. Sort of looks like it, though. The angle and the thickness of the NGC plastic warped the image a bit.

I'll never understand how a person can be so driven so collect such a vast number of the same thing. It defies logic. image

My humble collection of slabbed Acct Hair Kennedys consists of 51; 49 EnGeeCee and 2 PCGS. If you want to know why I don't have more PCGS, please revisit Russ' original thread and photo.

"We" (and you know who you are) think this particular coin has it's own mystique and history. Half the fun is the chase and no one has chased more than Russ.
