How Should I Handle This - Revenge!!!

Hi Everyone

One of my many character flaws is that I can't forgive and forget. This has been true ever since my first child was born. Now I have three small children so most of you understand my protective instinct.

The following auction(s) have not yet been paid. The guy ALWAYS pays late - two to three weeks after the auction end. He has once bounced a cheque on me although I did receive the payment - ulitmately. I am only linking to one of my auctions - the other coin he won was a cheapy but he has done the same with it (1910 farthing)

My Auction

And this was brought to my attention by another seller who's images he is stealing....

His Auction

Anyone with a sadistic imagination please respond. And any doubters out there must know that I do have a point here - this is specifically against Ebay rules and civil law (unless of course you have permission).

Lloyd

I bet his plan is to pay you with the proceeds from his auction (after he receives payment) then deliver to his auction's winner (after he takes delivery from you). image

Just make sure his auctions winner is one of your people-then torture him with slow pay and negs.

Well I was thinking of keeping the coin (artistic rights) and selling it to the highest bidder on his auction. That is of course after his cheque has cleared in the bank. Not my idea but suggested by a fellow maniac.

Sounds like it's time to block this bidder from your auctions.

    Hmm, maybe mine too.....

As you are aware, I don't give a damn about anyone buying a coin from me and selling at a profit - loads do it. I do it to others...... Like most people I think I can use my reputation and skills to create a unique selling environment for a coin I've only just bought. But those pics require investment and hard work.

Exactly. That's why he's not worth keeping as a customer. He wastes your time. Far more than his winning bid increment is worth. So he has yet to pay for this coin, but he's already trying to resell it. If he doesn't get a higher bid, do you think he will pay up? Will the check be good? Meanwhile the coin is sitting around taking up space, and you haven't seen a dime. I don't know about you, but my time is too valuable for that kind of B.S. For $2.00 less, you could have sold it to the underbidder, presumably have been paid, and then seen the coin on it's way two weeks ago. Out of your life forever, and you're $94.00 richer. Of course the stealing of your images is just the icing on the cake, so to speak. As a preemptive measure (we Americans seem to do that a lot image ) I'm going to add him to my blocked bidder list so I don't even have to waste the time rejecting his bid. image

e-mail him. Tell him you know what he's up to. Tell him to either remove his (your) pictures from his listing, or to include an extra $10 in his payment to cover your photographic expenses, or you will contact eBay to get him NAHRU'd?image

    1. Email him (via ebay) that he has far exceeded your 7 day 'combined shipping offer' and you expect immediate payment of the auction. Send the message about 11:00 pm your time.

    2. At 08:00 then next day, neg him as a non-paying buyer. Don't mention the other auction.

    3. Use a new id or a friend's disposable id (a few people on the US forum seem to have a few of these) and win his auction.

    4. Neg him immediately "Noticed he is using photos from another auction, an obvious scammer"

    5. Periodically search his winning bids for any that he then tries to sell.

    6. Repeat steps 3 and 4.

    7. Or, just to be mean, just use the disposable ids to win/neg without regard to whether or not it is a stolen picture.

It isn't bloody, but he will eventually have enough red in his feedback that he will soon lose his effectiveness as a seller. He will have to spend alot of effort in starting over, enough maybe he will learn that taking his own pictures is a little less work.

A revenge thread is certainly an opportunity for a lot of pent-up feeling to come out-I'm surprised by my lack of ingenuity in suggesting a suitable revenge-maybe I don't have a killer instinct; no, I do-it'll come...

Remember what the immortal Sherlock Homes of Baker Street said: "I think that there are certain crimes which the law cannot touch, and which therefore, to some extent, justify private revenge."

I am not sure... unfortunately, that is not a helpful answer. If you still have the coin, perhaps you should keep it and return the cheque that seems to have issues associated with it. Civitas seems to have provided a reasonable approach to this. I know this answer lacks blood, a degree of imagination and revenge but perhaps just the post here on this forum is enough to make a blunt point that will have a far more widespread impact than anticipated. Remember, you have to have bidders...

The solultion seems rather simple. eBay only requires that you keep an item for a buyer for ten days. If he has not paid during that period of time, you are free to do whatever you please with it. When he doesn't pay in the alloted time, file an NPBA, by then his auction should have ended, but he won't be able to get the coin to send to his auction winner, who will likely neg him for non-compliance. In the meantime, you can get in touch with his auction winner and explain the situation, and he can buy the coin from you image

Just an update.... coin failed to sell at £60 so he has relisted it at £70 with "ex rare" instead of very rare" and MY closeup image attached this time.

I haven't been paid yet and I'm confident the money will come. At this time I'd rather he was totally ignornant of my knowledge and feelings .... (just in case any of you feel like mailing him a super virus)

  • Just to keep the poor guys feelings up, I've emailed him asking him to forward me the original photos with more detail so I can determine my max bid. I'm sure he has saved them image
  • I am not sure if this can be done...but if you can edit theimages or at least edit your auction page to change the images....create some images that is just black and white saying that these images are stolen, or 'don't bidonmy auctions, i am a scammer' and give these images the orignal file names that he is stealing. Then have your auction page point to your real images. Until the scammer notices it will mess up his auction severely. It will require some administration on your part to ensure he doesn't change his page to point to your new images, but in the meantime you can have fun. This is even more nasty...instead of just having words on an image...throw in some porn. The scammer will then have porn images on his auction which is very against the ebay rules...he could get his account closed for that.

Good luck with whatever method you use to shut this guy down.
