1954 Wilson Franks Ted Williams PSA 1(MK)

So would this count as a "-1" on the set registry? image
I guess this is one of those cards that's desirable in ANY grade...

It's increasing steadily. I bid on it at $38 after Murcerfan mentioned it in another thread.

I ran Murcer up to $10 figuring it wouldn't go much higher. I guess I was only off by a factor of 15!

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

    Dang!
  • It seems that there have been other cards posted with a ton of writing on them that came back only as "authentic".

What kept this from being graded as authentic only?

The fact that it is fairly intact? The fact that it is a highly desireable card?

Just curious if there is a set rule.

    Thanks,

    Keith

Some of those cards may have been trimmed or altered so that they would not meet requirements for grading but were still authentic. The fact that this is not designated AUTH means that it is a clean card that just shows wear and markings.
  • Whoever wrote on that card committed a horrible crime (not to mention basically threw anywhere from $1000-10000 down the drain, I'd figure).
  • Yep ,

These do I exist I also have one though although nowhere near as valuable as the Teddy hot dog card is much nicer.

And resides in my 29 KAshin Set . I wonder if it drags down my GPA?

    Jeff,

Am I missing something? Unless the back is trashed, that is a High End PSA 1 or low end PSA 9! image

How about a scan of the back? That has to be the answer. Beautiful card for the grade, nonetheless.

    JEB.
  • It is actually a PSA 1 MK. Here is the scan of the back. Some one wrote the players name and number on the back(which is very common with this issue.....) Here is the back scan:

Card has the overall eye appeal of a high end PSA 7 or 8 ... with one tiny detail a pin hole at the bottom of the card I thought this card would get a PSA 3 or 4 MK when submitting this but I was wrong. Probably the nicest PSA -1 (for set purposes). But it is a gorgeous card that I paid all of $12.00 for including slabbing.

  • Luxury, that has to be the best looking PSA 1 w/qualifier ever!

Much better than Teddy over there.

Technically it doesn't seem like you should be penalized for adding a card to your set, regardless of how atrocious it is.

So if someone built a set of PSA 1's w/qualifiers they would have a negative set rating?
