If You Could Have One Coin......

What would it be? It would be ONE coin. Not a set or a series or a pair or whatever. The main rule is that you or your children can never gain from it financially - on your death it goes to a museum..... It would be just a part of your collection while you live.

What coin would that be.....?

Mine would be.... ahhh (later)

1820 £5 pattern. The fact that these were minted on the day George III died strikes my fancy.

I would have to go with a Gothic Crown. Not the most expensive coin in the world, but perhaps the most beautiful. If not that, then a MS68 Churchill Crown.

  • Edward VIII Halfpenny 1937 - not issued but exists.

I would love any of the halfcrown, sixpence or threepence - all have different/unique reverses - but the halfpenny would fit right in with my collection.

It's the only coin I can think of where I would borrow heavily to acquire it.

    That's me...

It used to be my #1 dream coin as well but now I'd rather have the 1845 gold medal measuring 56 mm in diameter featuring William Wyon's powerful rendition of St George slaying a dragon.

When I pass on I don't want there to be a PENNY to my name as the last one is spent to get me Planted.

That design placed on the reverse of the sovereign would have made me a collector of them. Incredible.

Well we have a shelf full of nice ones somewhere but I'm a little shy about presenting them for overcoats if you know what I mean...
  • I'd love to own an 1871 Prince Edward Island one cent in MS67.

If I could only have one, I'd like a nice, colorfully toned Polish 10 zlotych in the 1932-34 maiden series Y#22. While not an expensive coin, I have always admired the design.

I have been looking, but have not found the right example, perhaps when I do, I'll sell the rest of my collection and once again spend some of my spare time fishing and wood working.

If only one, how about a 1668 Salzburg 44 Ducat Klippe (KM212).
